Construction law specialist boosts real estate team

Legal, News | December 1, 2021

SHOOSMITHS

Milton Keynes-based leading law firm Shoosmiths has strengthened its real estate division, one of the largest multi-disciplinary practices in the UK, with the appointment of specialist construction lawyer, Ryan Fordham, as a partner.

Formerly the head of construction and engineering at Travers Smith, Ryan has more than 12 years of experience advising developers, contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, landlords, tenants, investors and funders on construction and engineering projects and transactions across the UK and internationally. Prior to this, he honed his expertise at Mayer Brown and Nabarro/CMS.

Ryan’s experience encompasses construction procurement and project and transaction advice across a broad range of sectors including commercial development, healthcare, infrastructure, utilities, energy, manufacturing and process engineering.

His appointment follows construction partner Ian Reid’s arrival in May, helping to meet increased client demand across the south of England. Ryan’s recent work includes acting on the King’s Cross redevelopment and Phase One of HS2.

Ryan said:

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Shoosmiths. It has an outstanding reputation for client service. The depth and breadth of its real estate and construction and engineering practices are also second to none. I look forward to utilising my experience and expertise to enhance even further the firm’s offering to clients.”

Patrick Garner, partner and national head of Shoosmiths’ construction team, added:

“We are seeing increasing demand for support and advice from construction clients as they seek to navigate the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, adjust to changes introduced post-Brexit and get back to business as usual. Ryan is expertly placed to help us provide the support that our clients need and has an impressive track record of nurturing strong client relationships that complements our commitment to client service excellence. We are very pleased to be welcoming Ryan to our team.”
