Work to commence on new creative academy

Briggs & Forrester Special Projects will soon be commencing work on ‘Big Creative Academy’s’ dynamic new building which will cater for the creative arts industry. The building will offer courses for 16-19 year-olds in the fashion, music, arts, media and fitness sector.

The works to the building will comprise of the demolition of the existing central spine building and two. Victorian buildings and construction of a new three-storey academy with a gross internal floor area of 3,850 square metres.

The specialist building will include a 200-seater theatre, gym, community café, outdoor performance area and gardens. These facilities will enable young people to have the essential resources to help them succeed in their creative career. The academy, which resides on a former school site, will accommodate up to 400 pupils.

Working in collaboration with main contractors Farrans Construction, Special Projects are responsible for carrying out the design and build mechanical, electrical and public health services for the project.

Mechanical works carried out will include sanitary installation, space heating and ventilation. Electrical works include LV distribution, internal general lighting and lightning protection.
