Sample ‘A Taste of the Med’ as holiday vibes set to heat up second Social Isolation Supper Club

We might not be going on holiday this summer but two of Northamptonshire’s hottest food and drink entrepreneurs are bringing a taste of their travels to the second Social Isolation Supper Club.

James Peck of Burnt Lemon Chefs has devised a menu showcasing the flavours of the South of France, while Benjamin Jelley, brand founder of Brixworth-based Jelley’s Organic Vodka will be mixing cocktails to enjoy in the sunshine.

The Social Isolation Supper Club is an interactive cookalong designed specifically for diners to take part in during lockdown, hosted live on Facebook.

‘Guests’ get a box delivered with everything they need to follow James step-by-step as he helps to prepare a gourmet three-course feast to enjoy in the comfort of your own home, while Benjamin shows you how to mix a cocktail designed to match each individual dish.

James spent time in the Savoie region of France during his time on BBC show The Chefs Brigade, where he cooked against members of the team at ‘Atmospheres’ - a restaurant run by the award-winning chef Alain Perrillat-Mercerot.

He said: “As two young guys working as start-ups in the hospitality sector we wanted to show a bit of innovation in the current climate. The first supper club was a great night and people loved cooking along. It’s something a bit different and a lot of fun, which is what we all need at the minute as we adapt to these difficult times.

“We thought we’d theme the second night around holidays as that’s something that most of us are likely to miss out on this year. Authentic French flavours are amazing and we’ll be bringing that bang up to date with some 21st century twists on classic combinations.”

The menu features dishes including carrot and tarragon cannelloni, marinated chicken thighs with asparagus and a slow-cooked duck egg and souffle pancakes with a salted chocolate ganache.

The package will also feature a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet ‘Les Roches Saintes’ from Duncan Murray Wines in Market Harborough, who said: “It’s a classic Picpoul, with refreshing lemon and apple fruit flavours and that ripeness you get from the South of France. It’s an extremely versatile white wine from vineyards that border the Med.”

Benjamin Jelley, brand founder of Brixworth-based Jelley’s Organic Vodka, said: “With the country still very much in the grip of a lockdown, we know there’s many people out there feeling isolated and lonely and wishing they could get away from it all and head to the beach on holiday. While that’s not going to happen any time soon, we wanted to give people the next best thing.”

The event will be shared through a live video on Jelley’s Organic Vodka’s Facebook page from 7pm on Saturday, May 16.
