The Milton Keynes economy has been described as ‘thriving’ and ‘bucking the trend’ by a firm which has made 49 new appointments in the past 12 months. Financial and business advice specialist, Grant Thornton, has recruited 22 graduates and 27 senior hires from within the local area in the past year and is continuing to invest in its workforce. Earlier this month the company welcomed Tim Broadway as Partner and celebrated long-time Partner, Giles Mullins, taking on a new role as Practice Leader. Tim joined Grant Thornton from a Big Four firm to the auditing team in the Milton Keynes office, and has 23 years’ of experience under his belt, advising mid-market and privately-owned businesses. In addition to being actively out in the market and meeting local companies, Tim will also be overseeing Grant Thornton’s ongoing recruitment drive. Commenting on his new role, Tim said: “Grant Thornton is a strong local brand and the Milton Keynes team is fantastic; they are highly skilled, energetic and keen to make a difference in the community and with local businesses. I’m looking forward to continuing to build my network in the mid-market and also carrying on with our local recruitment – making sure we’re bringing in the right people so we can continue with local investment.”
Giles Mullins, Practice Leader, added: “In spite of what we’re often seeing in the news, Milton Keynes is a vibrant town with a growing economy. Additionally, audit is an area which is going through some change at the moment – we see it as positive change and an opportunity to grow our offering in that area, and we’re delighted that Tim has joined us to help with that.” Giles joined Grant Thornton’s Milton Keynes office as a trainee in 2000 and apart from a brief spell in London, has spent 19 years living and working in the local area. In his new role as Practice Leader, he will be leading a multidisciplinary team of 200 people which includes 12 Partners and Directors and multiple specialisms of Corporate Finance, Audit, Corporate Tax, Personal Tax, Employer Solutions, Global Mobility, VAT, Special Projects, Business Consulting and more. He will also be working hard to develop Grant Thornton’s links within the local community. He explained: “I love being out and about in the local area and I want to make sure that the Grant Thornton Milton Keynes office is an integral part of it. One of the great things about our office is our ‘Collaboration Space’ on the 4th floor; it’s somewhere for start-ups, clients and small businesses to use as and when they need to and is completely free of charge. We also host charity events up there and that’s something I’d like to do a lot more of going forward.”Grant Thornton’s Milton Keynes office is one of the firm’s largest outside of London, located on Avebury Boulevard in the centre of the town. The client-focused team has a wealth of experience working with dynamic businesses, providing assurance, tax and advisory services.
