Property with a personal touch

Almost 20 years ago, estate agency Jackson Grundy opened its eighth branch in Northamptonshire in the Abington area of Northampton.

Sitting on the busy Wellingborough Road in the town, the branch predominantly covers the popular district of Abington as well as Abington Vale, Weston Favell Village, Rushmere and The Headlands.

Branch Manager Adam Faulkner has been working at the Abington branch for the last two years, but has been with Jackson Grundy since 2010, starting as an apprentice.

“When I left school, I joined the army in a land surveying role,” reveals Adam. “I attended a foundation college in Yorkshire and then, after completing the course, decided I didn’t want to carry on in the army. It just wasn’t for me.

“I started at Jackson Grundy as a 20-year-old apprentice and rose through the ranks, working in different roles across the business in different branches including Duston, Roade and Kingsthorpe, before joining the Abington branch as Manager.”

As well as being Branch Manager at Abington, Adam is a fully qualified Mortgage and Protection Advisor too.

“Being qualified in this area really helps when it comes to customer service,” says Adam. “If a prospective buyer wants to view a property, we can chat about where they are financially and what they are looking for, and then suggest properties that fit. This makes us different to other estate agencies.”

“Another thing that makes Jackson Grundy different is that every branch is run by a manager who knows the area well,” continues Adam. “I was born and bred in Northamptonshire and know the local market well, particularly ‘my patch’ of Abington, Abington Vale and Headlands. I know what houses are selling for from street to street and that being a part of the local community is important.”

Whilst Adam embraces the use of the internet in the search for a home, he believes that having that personal approach is important too and is something Jackson Grundy does well.

“One thing I see time and again is that people search for a location first and then a house,” reveals Adam. “They fall in love with a particular area and what it can offer and search online for houses within a certain mile radius. This is fine but great homes could get missed. By knowing the local area inside out, we can suggest other areas that offer the same. It’s not all about being online. Sometimes customers need to have someone they can talk to and ask questions.”

Adam’s typical day starts with a team meeting with colleague Anna Stratford and they reflect on what has gone on the day before and update each other on any sales and new properties coming on to the market. They also discuss any appointments taking place that day. The rest of the day is spent talking to customers and going out to do valuations. After work, Adam likes to run or ride his bike and has competed in marathons.

Asked how he thought his customers would describe him, Adam said: “My initial response when I meet or talk to a customer is to find out how I can help and then I get to work. I hope they would describe me as hard-working, honest and passionate.”
