Partnership working has always been an integral factor in the success of the Milton Keynes business community. For over 40 years, strategic partnerships have helped shape Milton Keynes into the fastest growing city in the UK. In Central Milton Keynes, this partnership model is now led by MyMiltonKeynes, the Business Improvement District (BID). Since 2017, their vision to increase visits, dwell time and spend within the city centre has seen a number of major projects delivered such as the launch of the MyMiltonKeynes App, the introduction of the MyBus scheme, various large-scale public events and the deep clean project, which has seen the city centre’s appearance and environment change beyond measure. But now, MyMiltonKeynes will launch the first city centre-wide marketing campaign for over a decade across this festive season aiming to ‘buck the trend’ of the well-reported issues on the high street and in town centres. Working in partnership with Destination Milton Keynes (the official tourism organisation for MK) and with levy payers throughout the city centre, the aim is to enhance the MK visitor offer around this crucial trading period and to promote Milton Keynes as a destination of choice.
The campaign will launch in late October with a magazine directly delivered to a regional audience, which will focus on promoting the city centre Christmas offer, as well giving a flavour of the wider MK visitor attractions. This will be supported by a substantial advertising campaign across the region with outdoor displays, digital screens and bus advertising, and it will utilise social media activity designed to encourage public engagement by sharing their festive moments with an incentive to win £1000s of fantastic prizes. Under the tag line ‘You’ll find it all in Milton Keynes’ the campaign is supported by centre:mk, intu Milton Keynes, Xscape, The Hub, 12th Street, Milton Keynes Theatre and many more organisations active within the wider visitor economy. A key moment in the festive season build up is the popular event organised by MyMiltonKeynes which this year takes place on Saturday 16th November at 4pm. Now in its fourth year, this event has become the traditional start of Christmas in MK. The huge pyrotechnic and laser brings together the community, with schools and local dance studios performing at the event in central Milton Keynes and kicking off the festive period in style. Melanie Beck, Chief Executive of MyMiltonKeynes commented, “Taking on a marketing campaign such as this is a huge undertaking, but we have been enthused by the commitment shown from our partners. Central Milton Keynes has such a lot to shout about around the festive period, and for the first time, this campaign brings it all together in one place, allowing for targeted promotion aimed at expanding the already important visitor economy and driving it forward over the coming years.”
