Help share a little magic with disadvantaged children this Christmas

After a series of annual campaigns which started in 2015, local arts charity Royal & Derngate has once again launched its annual Unforgettable Gift appeal.

Working with Northamptonshire Community Foundation and Lamport Hall’s Sir Gyles Isham Trust, this year’s campaign hopes to gift hundreds more free tickets to its Christmas shows, to children and young people who live in, or are at risk of child poverty.

The appeal aims to share the joy of theatre with those that may not ordinarily be able to afford it, and ultimately to make the Christmas period that little bit more magical for a considerable number of disadvantaged children across Northamptonshire.

Mandy Hammersley, Co-ordinator at Home-Start Northampton, who works with many families who benefitted from the appeal last year, said:

“I only wish you could hear the surprise and delight of our families when they are offered ‘Unforgettable Gift’ tickets. This wonderful opportunity not only enables our families to see spectacular live performances, which would otherwise be out of their reach, but also to enjoy special family togetherness at this time of year. No child should feel less advantaged than others.”

Customers are being invited to add a gift-aided donation of £10, which the theatre will match in order to provide free tickets to its Christmas 2019 productions Cinderella, Pippi Longstocking or The Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussy-cat.

David O’Hara, Marketing, Sales & Development Director at Royal & Derngate, said: “We’re always thrilled and appreciative of how generous the people of Northamptonshire are during this campaign, and last year’s appeal was our best yet. Now with some really fantastic Christmas shows for the children to look forward to, we’re really hoping everyone will support us again to help make this year bigger and better than ever!”

The theatre would particularly like to hear from local businesses who may be able to offer their support by making a direct donation, asking their customers to make a donation, or making a donation on behalf of their customers.
