Corporate football tournament raises funds for local hospice

Businesses from across Northamptonshire raised £732 for Cynthia Spencer Hospice by taking part in a charity football tournament organised by car and van leasing specialist Silverstone Fleet Management.

Twelve businesses took part in the five-a-side competition on Saturday 15 th February at the Benham Sports Centre on Moulton Park after Ryan Bishop, Sales Manager at Silverstone Fleet Management, decided he wanted to use his local business contacts and love of football to raise money for the company’s Charity of the Year. He also wanted to keep the momentum going after the incredible success of #Sing4Cynthia in October, a social media campaign he spearheaded that saw people from across the local business community film themselves singing songs and upload them to LinkedIn with the hashtag #Sing4Cynthia and then pledge money to a Just Giving page and nominate two other people to take part.

“We managed to raise £1,149 with #SingForCynthia and I wanted to keep that going and decided to look at a way of raising money through football,” said Ryan. “As a football fanatic myself, I wanted to get everyone involved in a fun atmosphere where we could all have a good time but also raise some more money for Cynthia Spencer Hospice.”

Prior to the event, Silverstone Fleet Management set up a landing page for registrations and Ryan contacted numerous local businesses who all paid £60 to take part. Businesses that signed up included SK Energy, Oracle Solutions Asbestos Ltd, Technical Foam Services, Quagga Design Ltd, ACS Office Solutions, Wilson Browne Solicitors, All Things Management Ltd and Pegasus Forklift Training. The main sponsors of the event were GPW Consulting and Pendragon Protect and Dunore Energy were banner sponsors.

The event kicked off at 9.30am with a warm-up from Silverstone Fleet Management’s Sales Support Manager Aby Mason, with the end result confirmed at 2pm. The overall

tournament winners were YMD Boon Architects and Dunore Energy received the runner up trophy.

Scott Norville, Managing Director at Silverstone Fleet Management, said: “We are over the moon with how everything went and Ryan did a fantastic job of organising. It was great to see so many well-known businesses from Northamptonshire turn out and take part. As well as football, there was some great networking going on and people left with plenty of leads too.”

Nina Gandy, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Cynthia Spencer Hospice, was on hand during the day to talk to the businesses taking part, which Silverstone Fleet Management

hope will lead to more fundraising opportunities for the hospice with other companies.

Nina said: “The event was brilliant and there was such a buzz throughout the whole day. The amount raised is fantastic and once again shows the great support we get from Silverstone Fleet Management and the wider local business community. Thank you so much to everyone who took part. It was great to be part of such a great event.”

Silverstone Fleet Management has already committed to running the tournament again next year and will introduce improvements to ensure more money is raised for charity, such as adding a raffle and setting up a Just Giving page so supporters can donate as well as those playing.
