Businesses move into Milton Keynes as local economy thrives

Earlier this year, Milton Keynes was named the UK’s fastest growing city, taking over Cambridge and Reading.

The data was based on a combination of factors including population, growth in economic output and commercial property rental data. The city also came in the top 10 of several other categories including ‘most productive’, ‘most entrepreneurial’ and ‘greenest city’.

Milton Keynes is also fast gaining a reputation for being a ‘new tech city’, with high performance technology (HPT) businesses including Red Bull Racing, ITC Infotech, Prodrive IMS Evolve, and the Transport Systems Catapult Research Centre calling MK home. This is something that is likely to grow with the opportunities brought by the emerging Oxford – Milton Keynes – Cambridge growth corridor, a line of towns and cities recognised by the government as having ‘knowledge driven economies’ that require investment in infrastructure, such as housing and connectivity, to grow further. Now, it has been revealed that some Santander is investing £150 million in a new state-of-the-art facility that will employ 5,000 staff and become the bank’s UK ‘technology hub’. A second company, Integral Powertrain, which designs and builds motors and inverters for the automotive and aerospace industries, has started construction on a new technical centre at Shenley Wood which will be three times the size of its existing premises in Bletchley. Xpress Relocation, a company that specialises in commercial moves, has been based in Milton Keynes for more than 20 years. The company has not only seen its own growth during that time but has helped clients move as they have outgrown premises or set up brand new facilities. As well as helping to move office furniture and commercial equipment, Xpress Relocation carries out a ‘full move management service’ which sees it also supply and install furniture, move whole IT networks, archive files, store items securely, and dispose of any items no longer required.

Jade Taylor, Sales and Marketing Manager at Xpress Relocation, said: “We are really passionate about Milton Keynes and the opportunities it can provide to businesses.Having been based here for 23 years ourselves, we have grown from a small family-run business to a team of 35. Over the years, we have moved offices, factories, hospitals, laboratories, educational facilities and much more.

“It’s so exciting to hear of more companies choosing to set up in Milton Keynes or invest in bigger facilities and we would really love to help where we can. Relocating a business is about so much more than just moving belongings from one place to another. You need to ensure business continuity too, which is where our full office move service comes into its own. If any businesses are relocating to Milton Keynes, or moving to larger premises, we would love to work with them.”

Xpress Relocation counts many big names as clients, including Barclays, Red Bull Racing, Experian, Virgin, Princes, The Open University and many more.
