- With the dramatic increase in the demand being placed on charities this Christmas, The Mall Luton has stepped in to provide financial support to Luton Foodbank.
- Many families and individuals have found themselves in financial difficulty from the challenges of 2020, meaning requirements for food have rocketed.
- The centre, together with its owners C&R, has made a cash donation of £2,000.
Supporting the local community is a priority for the team at The Mall Luton. Together with Luton Council, the Luton Foodbank wasselected from several charities supported by the Mayor of Luton to receive a £1,000 donation from the centre. The donation has been match-funded by the centre’s owners C&R, meaning the charity will benefit from £2,000 to support to those most in need this December. Food poverty is a situation many are facing as the COVID-19 outbreak continues, and by selecting Luton Foodbank as their Charity of the Year back in January, The Mall Luton have been able to provide ongoing support throughout 2020.
Roy Greening, General Manager at The Mall Luton, said, “At a time of year when we are all looking forward to spending time together, which so many haven’t been able to do this year, we want to be sure that those in our local community facing hardship and uncertainty do not go without. Supporting Luton Foodbank means they will be able to provide much needed support and hopefully a happier festive season. I am personally very proud that as a centre we are able to provide this invaluable help, knowing that we have made things a little easier.”
Salma Khan from the Foodbank said, “We were thrilled that we were chosen as the charity to receive this generous donation. The centre, the council and the Mayor have all been so supportive this year. It has come at the right time as the number of families accessing our services is increasing on a weekly basis. These additional funds are a very welcome boost to the charity and will really make a difference”. A collection point for the Luton Foodbank is located outside Tesco at The Mall for anyone who wishes to donate goods.
