Nationally, it is estimated that 1 in 29 school children are bereaved of a parent or sibling – that is potentially 1 per school class. Statistics like these highlight the need for charities like Harry’s Rainbow, a Milton Keynes based children’s charity that support children and young people who have been bereaved of a parent or sibling.
The Community Business of the Year Gold award winners will be launching their yearly campaign to raise much-needed awareness of child bereavement in line with Children’s Grief Awareness Week. The campaign will run between 18th – 25th November and the charity will be providing everything needed to get involved, including selfie props, face paint, and t-shirts – all you need to do is pick a day and raise awareness of child bereavement by wearing a rainbow.
The campaign has been a great success over the past three years raising over £6000 as well as spreading awareness of Child Bereavement throughout the community. Local businesses including, Mercedes, TheCentre:MK, Mr Simms Sweet Shoppe, DHL and Argos have helped make the week a success in previous years. This year the group says they would love to expand on that success and encourage companies and individuals alike to have fun with the campaign and get involved.
