You learn a lot over 50 years in business, but what the team behind Combined Motors Ltd in Northampton have learned first and foremost is that customer service is the key to success.
A fast and reliable turnaround, getting the vehicle back on the road in no time, is important and is what Combined Motors always strives to achieve, whether it’s an MOT, service or a repair.
But the relationship between the staff and customers remains paramount and the aim is that every customer leaves happy and having had a great experience.
Founded in 1972 by David Conyard, who is now retired, Combined Motors in St Andrews Road is now headed up by David’s wife and CEO Jacky Conyard. It is the largest MOT testing garage in the town and a team of trained mechanics specialise in most types and makes of vehicle, including cars, motorbikes, minibuses or light commercial vehicles.
Across the workshop, the team carries out MOTs, servicing and repairs, using the latest vehicle diagnostics technology to carry out checks and resolve issues as quickly and efficiently as possible. Jacky said:
“We’re proud to be celebrating our 50th anniversary. The business was set up by David after he completed his apprenticeship and decided he wanted to start his own independent company. It wasn’t long before Combined Motors had built a reputation for being a good, reliable garage that would give you an honest opinion and do an efficient job.”
Jacky joined the business in 1990 to look after the financial and customer service side of the business and their son Damien joined as an apprentice in 2008 and is now a fully qualified member of the team of 13, all of whom have their own specialist knowledge and expertise. The business expanded its premises in 2005 and became one of the largest testing centres in the Midlands, with eight MOT bays and three repair ramps. Jacky added:
“Although many things have changed in the motoring world since 1972, we have always maintained the family-run feel. We’re entering a new era now, of hybrid and electric vehicles and we’re investing heavily in that area so that the team can carry out repairs on those vehicles as well, but most importantly, I’m driven to make sure that not only do the standards remain high in the work we carry out but also in the levels of customer service we offer.
“We want everyone to leave here with a smile on their face, knowing we’ve done a good job.”
