Proud to be part of county’s success stories

Having provided legal services in Northamptonshire for almost 200 years, DFA Law has worked with a large number of manufacturing and engineering clients in many different ways.

Northamptonshire was once famous for its leather and shoe industry but there are many other success stories involving local companies in the manufacturing sector, and still to this day they provide mass employment within the county, and the UK is currently in the top dozen nations in the world for manufacturing.

As with many industries, consolidation has proven to be popular, and in the last 12 months alone we have handled both sales and acquisitions for manufacturing and engineering clients.

Aside from the glitzy M&A work we can also assist clients with things such as:

Compliance & Regulations

We can assist in making sure clients adhere to the mountain of regulations and help ensure compliance and avoid unnecessary penalties and fines. The Corporate and Commercial Law team advises businesses of all kinds, including public and private companies, partnerships and sole traders, as well as advising start-ups, management teams, investors, debt providers, insolvency practitioners, directors and shareholders.

Intellectual property protection

We touched on IP in our last article and if your company has a unique product or process, protecting the IP is imperative. IP can be found in many formats, such as website articles, videos or imagery and the majority of businesses will have at least a logo either on their website or their stationery. Manufacturing and engineering companies have to think about protections for products, processes and services, including registered trade marks, a registered design, copyright protection or maybe even a patent.

Litigation and Dispute Resolution

Our experienced team can help resolve contractual disputes timely and in a cost-effective way.

Like any business, cash flow is key to manufacturing clients and chasing outstanding invoices can take up val- uable time and does not always result in payment being made. We regularly assist clients with debt collection, a service that starts from only £7.50 + VAT.

Employment law

The bigger the company, the bigger the workforce. We can provide tailor-made employment and HR packages for a business of any size, dealing with any contentious aspects of employment law, such as unfair dismissal, as well as the non-contentious aspects such as contracts of employment.

Around 10 years ago, we saw an increase in work deriving from the energy sector in and around the county and, after what appeared to be a quieter period, the energy sector is an area where we have seen an increased level of activity in the last 6 months or so, with an increase in solar parks and wind farms in particular bringing additional jobs and investment to Northamptonshire’s engineering sector.

It is a sector that continues to grow and develop, with new technology bringing changes to manufacturing processes, prompting expansions and start-ups. DFA Law is on hand to advise and assist with all aspects of business law.
