Listening and learning is at the heart of delivering something unique

Navigating the world of business isn’t always easy and when a strategic partnership comes along that goes way beyond expectations to help make that journey a little bit easier, it can make a whole lot of difference.

As a recruitment services provider, Mixxos Group understands clients’ needs when it comes to attracting, recruiting and retaining the best talent. But, taking that understanding a step further is at the heart of the Mixxos ethos – and has been built into the company’s business model – as demonstrated most recently by its collaboration with AI and data specialist Aimii.

AI Reality, organised by Mixxos in collaboration with Aimii, was the latest in the recruitment firm’s series of carefully tailored events based on feedback from local businesses about what topics are providing most food for thought or touching the most pain points.

Listening and learning is at the heart of delivering something unique

The event in November, at Aimii’s headquarters in Avebury Boulevard, was subtitled Empowering People, Enhancing Business and involved a panel of speakers discussing how AI can be used in the recruitment sector to streamline processes and deliver efficiencies. The talks and discussion focused on demystifying AI and its role in the HR sector, and on the concerns people have about using AI in recruitment, including the dangers of bias.

Guests also heard from members of the Aimii team on what the firm is focusing on in terms of its work on conscious and ethical AI use and on implementing the latest advances in the technology.

Mixxos has four more similar events already planned for next year, including the next one, in March, which will be focused on International Women’s Day.

Speaking after the AI Reality event, Mixxos Group Co-Owner Gemma Downing said:

“It was fascinating to be in a room full of like-minded people who are committed to their personal development and who will take what they have learned back to their businesses to implement and innovate.

“AI is a major topic now and the feedback I’ve had since the event has been overwhelming. It’s something many people are wary of, but AI will not take over from humans in HR, it’s a tool for efficiency. The event discussed what different applications there are, things to make processes more efficient – note taking, disciplinary hearings, using AI to help you avoid unconscious bias in recruitment – and it was certainly thought provoking.

“Getting to grips with AI and choosing what platforms are right for you can be tricky, and expensive, but our sessions helped get the juices flowing to enable people to make decisions about what they need.”

Listening and learning is at the heart of delivering something unique

Within the recruitment sector, Mixxos Group specialises in temporary, permanent and contract hire across the head office and commercial, and warehouse and industrial sectors. But, in addition to finding top talent, Gemma and fellow Director Chris Mapp and their team are keen to be more than just a recruitment service.

Delivering regular events, covering critical topics, many of which have been suggested to them, directly or indirectly by clients, has become part of the Mixxos Group make-up. At its event around International Women’s Day, the themes are likely to include how circumstances, from new mothers returning to work to women who are going through the menopause, can hinder women and affect their efficiency in the workplace. Understanding the needs of women, and when and how to help, is crucial and is likely to be a key feature of that event.

Gemma said: “Everything we do comes from listening to clients and seeing what issues they face in their businesses. Our main line of work is recruitment, but we want to go above and beyond that and do something that is truly different, things that extend to supporting clients with their business growth.

“The AI Reality event had between 70 and 80 people from the Milton Keynes business community coming together to collaborate and learn. It’s not like networking, it goes much further than that, addressing the topics in depth and providing a safe space where it is OK to ask questions and discuss the issues.”

Mixxos has delivered an open invitation to any businesses that have topics or issues they would like to see addressed to put them forward as potential themes for future events.
