Cynthia Spencer Hospice, a much-loved palliative care service in Northampton, is calling on the community to step up and lend a hand by volunteering their time and throwing themselves into fundraising in 2025 to support the vital local cause.
The hospice kicked off the new year by launching a new fundraising event called the Twilight Walk – a wonderful way to show support and remember loved ones lost.
The inaugural event will be held on Saturday May 10, starting and finishing at Delapré Abbey, where people can join the Cynthia Spencer Hospice team with their family, friends or colleagues to walk 5km or 10km as the sun sets and raise much needed funds.
The Twilight Walk will run alongside other crowd favourites this year such as the Colour Run in June and Cycle4Cynthia in September. The hospice has also been chosen as the sole beneficiary for this year’s Rust Bucket Rally, which sees competitors race through Europe in ‘rust bucket’ cars that cost no more than £1,000 each to raise charity cash.
At the hospice’s bustling Moulton Park donation station, retail volunteers are urgently needed –particularly on Saturdays – to help with packing, picking, sorting donations, and working on the till.
There are other roles also available, including helping as school coordinators, admin volunteer positions or even becoming community ambassadors to spread the word about the hospice’s incredible work.
Last year, Cynthia Spencer Hospice launched its Make A Difference Your Way campaign, to encourage more people in the community to make a difference and support its incredible services by highlighting the many different ways to back the charity.
Whether that is volunteering time, donating or fundraising money, or spreading the word, every small gesture makes a huge difference. Michelle Morris, Community and Events Fundraiser (Lead) at Cynthia Spencer Hospice, said:
“If you’re looking at giving back to your community, getting fit, or volunteering, we have just the opportunity to suit you.
“Maybe you just want to have more fun! Our fundraising events for this year include the Twilight Walk, Colour Run, Rust Bucket Rally and Ascot Ladies Day to name just a few – and we certainly know how to put the fun in fundraising, so we implore you to choose us in 2025.
“Or if you’re a people person who enjoys meeting new faces, we have a whole host of volunteering roles that will suit you within the Cynthia Spencer family. Whether you can spare one hour a week or a whole day, it all makes such a massive difference to us. We always need volunteers for our fundraising events as well as day-to-day operations.
“Volunteering is a fantastic way for individuals to make new friends and give back to the community. The roles would particularly suit students, young professionals, or anyone with a few hours free. We promise a warm welcome, a great atmosphere, and a large dose of feel-good vibes!”
