A leading vegetation management and landscaping contractor is embarking on a recruitment drive to grow and nurture its network of arborists.
VMS Ltd, which is headquartered in Wellingborough, is currently recruiting for a range of new positions, including ground operatives, climbing arborists and Level 2 Apprentices in Arboriculture across its sites in Wellingborough and Cumbria.
The Level 2 Apprenticeship will provide successful applicants with the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications through its on-site training school, VMT Limited, while growing a career in arboriculture.
With a start date of September 2025, applicants must be aged 17 and over and either recently left school or be a school leaver this summer. Although no experience is required, enthusiasm for working outdoors and with nature is a pre-requisite, alongside an eagerness to learn.
Experienced ground operatives are also being recruited to work with the company’s Vegetation Clearance Teams in Northamptonshire on an Environment Agency contract.
Due to a significant increase in secured works, recruitment for experienced climbing arborists is also under way.
Commenting on the recruitment drive, Helen Mallett, training department manager, said: “As a fast-paced and quickly growing organisation with depots across the country, we are always on the lookout for the right people to join the VMS team.
“Our current recruitment drive is testament to the valuable work we do in vegetation management and landscaping, and with students having just finished their exams, our Level 2 apprenticeship offers the perfect opportunity for those looking to work outdoors in nature and earn whilst they learn.
“All successful candidates will receive a full range of training and can expect future opportunities to progress their career through our Lantra Approved Training Division, VMT.
“We look forward to hearing from applicants who want to start their arborist career with us or continue to develop the skills they already have.”
The recruitment drive follows the company’s Employer of the Year award win at last November’s Northamptonshire Business Awards, organised by Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce.
Judges recognised VMS for its ability to ‘demonstrate excellence in the promotion and implementation of a learning and development culture’ and for how its people and culture ‘has contributed to the business achieving outstanding success’.
The company also works closely with local schools and colleges to promote the benefits and rewards of arboriculture as a career.
Helen added: “VMS has a lot to offer as an employer, and we are hugely passionate about what we do. Our team works in water, by railways and in commercial spaces, offering a range of services including landscaping, ecology and habitat preservation, commercial arboriculture and training.
“We look forward to growing our team further and nurturing them through our on-site training school and supportive business culture.”
