Specialising in serving sophisticated Spanish food and drink has put popular pub The Pig and Waffle firmly on the county’s culinary map.
The Grafton Underwood pub has gained a renowned reputation for its sumptuous Spanish tapas, wines and beers and is part of the Greedy Gordons collection of Northamptonshire pubs and businesses.
Delicious dining, engaging events plus exclusive hire availability for bespoke weddings and private parties, has ensured The Pig and Waffle has become a favourite dining destination in the region.
The Pig and Waffle is well-known as a brunch and tapas specialist with an extensive array of delicious dishes created by its talented team of Spanish chefs, led by Maria de los Angeles Piñeiro, who serve dishes made from the freshest ingredients and produce sourced as locally as possible, to further enhance the eating experience.
The venue is part of the Greedy Gordons pub portfolio, which is celebrating further recognition within the hospitality industry, as it announced another accolade has been awarded to the culinary group.
Managing Director at Greedy Gordons, Richard Gordon, who runs the culinary collection with business partner Sonya Harvey, said:

“We were named regional winners for our ‘outstanding performance and fantastic work running an epic pub business’ – the news came out of the blue, Sonya and I were just blown away!”
Their triumph in the regional rounds saw them selected as finalists in this year’s esteemed Punch Publican of the Year award, with winners set to be unveiled at an awards ceremony in September.
Richard added:
“With more than 2,000 Punch pubs in the UK, to also be announced as national finalists is an amazing achievement, especially as it is one of their most prestigious awards. While Sonya and I are the licensees, this accolade is very much recognition for our wider team, who do the day-to-day running under our guidance. It makes all the blood, sweat and tears worth it and demonstrates that people very much like what we are doing.”
The latest awards announcement comes hot on the heels of the recent news that another Greedy Gordons pub, The Snooty Fox in Lowick, is a national finalist in the Great British Pub Awards 2024.
As the Greedy Gordons team celebrate its latest award achievements, they’ve been busy bringing a summer of Spanish delights to diners at The Pig and Waffle, where they recently launched regular Sunday afternoon events featuring paella masterclasses accompanied by Spanish guitar sessions.
Visitors to the Pig and Waffle can enjoy Sangria, Spanish wines and beers plus an eclectic mix of cocktails and mocktails. Richard revealed what helps make the pub so popular with patrons.
“Maria, our Spanish chef, is at the very heart of it all, cooking incredible hearty dishes that have been handed down to her traditionally through her family for years,” said Richard. “Maria originates from Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain – where the real magic happens.
“She has the heritage and expertise in this specialist style of cooking. It is all authentic and just like going to a tapas bar in Spain and eating very similar food because the recipes have been passed down to her through her family. She is an exceptional chef, and her paella masterclass events are fantastically popular, which was why we decided to host our special Paella and Spanish guitar events on Sunday afternoons during the summer with a special paella event taking place on Sunday, August 18 from 3pm.
“The Pig and Waffle is very popular, including with families, as we have a great children’s menu, too. We have an extensive Spanish wine list as well as Spanish beers and are excited to be collaborating with Spanish beer brand Damm, to further enhance our authentic offering.”
While the venue offers alfresco dining when the summer sun does decide to shine, the Greedy Gordons team has already launched its festive menus and announced The Pig and Waffle is available for exclusive hire options including private parties, Christmas parties and weddings.
Richard added:
“The venue can be hired exclusively and is available for those special events. We can accommodate over 100 people and host more intimate private hire events. The paella themed wedding we hosted last year was extremely popular and it’s the ideal venue for companies hosting Christmas parties.
Businesses can hire out The Pig and Waffle for the night, enjoy the new festive menu and music, with room for dancing.”
