In the fast-paced landscape of today’s workforce, it’s essential to provide young individuals with key skills and hands-on experiences to enhance their chances of securing employment and smoothly transitioning from education into the next phase of their lives.
Northampton Saints Foundation’s 16+ education programmes, dedicated to supporting young people aged 16 to 19, has been at the forefront of this mission. Through strategic partnerships, the programmes continue to empower participants with invaluable insights and hands-on experience in various industries.
A collaboration between the Foundation and Lawrence Cleaning Services came about through a LinkedIn poll where LCS asked its followers to nominate a charity which they felt were most valuable in the community. With the Foundation coming out as winners, the teams came together to plan a series of workshops aimed at building the skills and knowledge of students for the work environment.
The first session focused on the Inclusion Hub, a space for Foundation and Club activities. Students were introduced to essential cleaning techniques and equipment operation under the guidance of Lawrence Cleaning Services. From vacuuming and general cleaning, every student actively participated in tasks that not only strengthen practical skills but also gave them a sense of responsibility and ownership.
As the partnership progressed, the second workshop, led by industry experts, delved deeper into topics such as health and safety values. Through these workshops, students gained insights into industry-standard practices, including PAT testing, PPE requirements, lone working policies and hazard protocols. The emphasis on safety and professionalism not only prepared students for the cleaning industry but also equipped them with transferable skills across various industries.
In the final week, students took part in a hands-on session with the opportunity to operate specialised cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, dryers and window cleaning tools. Additionally, an interactive quiz and activities added an element of fun and engagement, further enhancing the learning experience.
Craig Phillips, Employability Lead at the Foundation, expressed his appreciation for the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the students throughout the sessions. He said:
“I am thrilled with the participation of our students in the LCS workshops which helps them to understand and realise their full potential and thrive in their future workplaces. The partnership with Lawrence Cleaning Services has provided them with valuable skills and experiences that will benefit them in the future.”
Mark Lawrence, Managing Director of LCS said:
