Cygnus – Taking marathon strides for the MK Hospital Charity

The team at Cygnus are community focused and passionate about getting involved and supporting local charities to raise money and awareness through various initiatives. Our own business values align with the great work the charity team delivers, so therefore, it makes perfect sense for us to offer our combined support.

In 2019, Cygnus participated in various events to raise all important funds for our chosen charity, Milton Keynes Hospital Charity.

This included sponsored activities such as running events, cycling London to Paris and Colour Rush, along with organising local student initiatives to raise awareness of the charity and seasonal giveaways for the hospital staff and patients. We’re really proud of the £6000+ raised in 2019 and would love to exceed this in 2020.

On May 3rd 2020, we will be taking our next steps to support Milton Keynes Hospital Charity (MKHC) as we take on the MK marathon. We are already in training and looking forward to joining thousands of others taking in a scenic route around MK’s lakes, parks and woodlands with the welcomed finish line at Stadium MK.

Our Managing Director, Martin, commented

“When we were approached by Jenny and Vanessa at Milton Keynes Hospital Charity to consider entering a team for the marathon, I was a little hesitant. Having completed a marathon five years ago, it wasn’t something I expected to be signing up to again! However, not one to shy away from a challenge, I decided to go for it. Obviously, the training is a big commitment and the time that it takes through the winter months, so I was really pleased that a few of the team also wanted to get involved. I know that the experience itself and the feeling of it being completed will be worth all the challenges, dedication and hard work.”

Jack from Cygnus, commented “MKHC is a fantastic charity and I’m proud to be running the marathon in aid of this great cause. The training prior to the event will be worth it!”

Martin also mentioned “I welcome challenges that take me out of my comfort zone and push me physically and mentally and it gives me great satisfaction knowing I can do this whilst helping a very worthy cause.”

Jenny Howells, Senior Fundraiser at Milton Keynes Hospital Charity said: “We have been working closely with Cygnus for a few years now and this is just another way that they have demonstrated amazing support towards our charity by going over and above for us – we can’t wait to cheer them both across the finish line on the big day in May!”

We encourage anyone considering any fundraising event to grasp the opportunity and go for it!

MKHC raises money for all wards and departments at Milton Keynes University Hospital. Their fundraising helps to improve patient experience and ensures that their stay at the hospital is as comfortable and positive as possible. Their fundraising, which goes over and above the NHS funding, has enabled wards and departments to purchase items such as a teaching skeleton for the chronic pain team and bright and positive artwork for the children’s ward.
