Fixtures promise a festive treat and a wealth of great rugby

Boxing Day rugby returns to Goldington Road as Bedford Blues’ fixtures for the 2025/26 Champ Rugby campaign are out.

Blues begin at home for the third season running when hosting Ealing Trailfinders, in a battle between last season’s first and second placed teams, on Saturday October 4. The match, which kicks off at 4pm, will be live streamed as part of two feature games on opening weekend.

Tough trips to rivals Coventry and Ampthill come in the opening four rounds of action, broken up by one of the most highly anticipated dates in the calendar with the annual Ladies Day festivities coming in a home tie against Hartpury on Saturday October 18.

The first Friday night fixture on home soil sees Doncaster Knights arrive on Halloween, while Blues’ solitary home game in November is also under lights against Caldy on Friday November 14 as part of the memorial celebrations.

Rounding off 2025 there are three mouthwatering ties at Goldington Road, starting with the visit of Cambridge in early December for a festive bash, before the calendar year ends with back-to-back home matches against returning Worcester Warriors the week before Christmas and Richmond on Boxing Day.

Blues have a proud record in the festive period to defend, backed by a sold-out attendance in each of the past four years and the club is hoping for that streak to continue against the team from the capital.

At the turn of the year, Blues will start on the road, seeking a first ever victory at Kingsey Road against Chinnor, before welcoming Coventry in January, followed by Ampthill and London Scottish in February.

March, April and May are all scheduled to have just one home fixture, all of which are on Saturdays, but Mike Rayer’s men will be targeting involvement in the post season play-off structure which begins from the weekend of May 16.

For the second time in three seasons, Blues will end the league campaign on the road at Ealing.

All league matches, plus the pre-season fixtures against Blackheath, Northampton Saints and Ampthill, are included in this year’s Season Ticket package.

Individual match tickets are available online through the Bedford Blues website as the team look to defend Fortress Goldington Road – the team finished last season with the best home record across the entire division.

That impenetrable home record went a long way to securing their best league finish for 13 years, coming second and playing more rugby for the ages in front of a close to 3,000 attendance each week.

For businesses wishing to make the day even more special for colleagues or clients, an upgrade to corporate hospitality means enjoying the best seats in the house. The club recently announced a new Commercial Manager, Ben Howe, who will be more than happy to advise on spending the day at Bedford’s premier sporting club watching great rugby, with an ideal chance to network, as well as having a fun-filled afternoon.
