Leading business and financial advisory firm Grant Thornton UK has opened a new office in Colchester, strengthening its presence in North Essex and reinforcing its commitment to local businesses and talent.
Located at Tollgate Business Park, the office will accommodate around 50 team members, many with strong ties to Colchester and surrounding areas. This strategic relocation positions the firm closer to key clients and will allow for continued service of the region’s dynamic mid-market business community.
Grant Thornton has successfully worked alongside North Essex businesses for over 25 years, and this move will further enhance the firm’s presence in the area, as well as creating opportunities with the firm for experienced professionals across Suffolk and north Essex.
The move also supports the firm’s long-standing relationships with local education institutions, including the University of Essex and Colchester Sixth Form College. These collaborations aim to create clear pathways into professional services careers through school-leaver programmes, graduate schemes, and mentoring opportunities.
Several team members in Colchester have progressed through similar routes, starting locally through apprenticeship or trainee programmes and advancing to senior roles within the firm.
Tim Taylor, Partner and Colchester Practice Lead for Grant Thornton UK, said:
“We’ve been part of the Essex business community for over 25 years, and our roots here run deep. The strength of the local economy and the ambition of businesses in this region have always inspired us. Opening our new Colchester office allows us to build on that heritage, continue supporting our long-standing clients, and forge new relationships with innovative, fast-growth businesses. Colchester is a vibrant city with a brilliant business ecosystem, and we’re excited to play an even bigger role in its future.”
Jake Fewell, Entrepreneurial Services Manager at Grant Thornton UK, added:
“I grew up in the area, not far from Stanway which is just minutes from our new office and started my Grant Thornton career through a school-leaver programme. I had the opportunity to gain international experience with Grant Thornton in Sydney, before ultimately returning to Essex with the firm. I’m incredibly proud we’ve made the move to my hometown, helping local businesses thrive and mentoring the next generation of professionals. We’re passionate about giving back to the area.”
Now located at Unit 7, Tollgate Business Park, Colchester, Grant Thornton is committed to shaping a stronger, more resilient business community in Essex.
