An historic 17th-century former coaching inn in Wellingborough town centre is being offered for sale through regional commercial property consultancy, Prop-Search.
Built just before the civil war, The Hind Hotel is Grade II* Listed and occupies a prominent location on Sheep Street, forming part of the town’s one-way system and overlooking the primary shopping area. It holds a pivotal place in the history books, famous for its connection to Oliver Cromwell and the English Civil War, where Parliamentarian generals supposedly met to to strategize against Royalist forces before the pivotal Battle of Nasesby in 1645. Cromwell himself is rumoured to have stayed there.
In more recent times, the hotel has benefitted from a £1.3 million external refurbishment, in partnership with Wellingborough Borough Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, and a reported £600,000 refurbishment of bedrooms and circulation space. A further £300,000 has been spent on modernising the ground floor public areas and replacing old equipment throughout the property.
The hotel is accessed via an impressive porte cochere entrance where guests are treated to a grand staircase which accesses the upper floors comprising of three function rooms and 34 bedrooms; all with en-suites. The ground floor provides a charming oak-beamed restaurant, resident’s lounge bar, coffee shop as well as kitchens and baggage store. There is also a courtyard car park for approximately 11 vehicles.
The sale of the hotel is being managed by Simon Toseland, a Director of Prop-Search, who commented: “Whilst the Hind Hotel has sadly closed its doors for now, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a building positioned at the very heart of Wellingborough. The combination of a historic listed building with modern upgrades, creates an offering that we anticipate will appeal to operators looking to capitalise on its future business potential.”
“Alternatively, we can see the hotel offering an opportunity to a developer for adaptive reuse, with a possible transformation to create a mixed-use commercial/residential space, cultural venue or high-end apartments.”
The hotel freehold is on the market and further information can be obtained from Prop-Search – Telephone: 01933 223300 or visit their website.
