National Sporting Triumphs Recognised by Schools Publication

Northampton School for Boys has been named as the Best State School for Sport in Britain in 2022/23 by the national media publication School Sport Magazine.

Each year, School Sport Magazine produces a ranking list taking into account the results in a range of qualifying competitions during the academic year.

Northampton School for Boys had a particularly successful year in 2022/23 with nine of its teams reaching national finals in six different sports, including winning titles in rugby and football. Its under-16 basketball team and under-18 water polo team were runners up in their competitions, with the under-15 water polo team achieving a national Top Ten Ranking.

The Inter Boys cross country team won the bronze medal in the national team final and the Junior and Intermediate Boys athletics squads achieved Top Ten rankings in their finals events.

There were also five gold medals for the indoor rowers at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships and Michael Graham set a world record time in the 500m Sprint.

This is the fourth time in the past ten years that Northampton School for Boys has achieved the top ranking in the School Sport Magazine list, testament to the importance the school places on education outside the classroom and developing a rich extra- curricular programme.

As well as those competing at national level, the school also provides wide and varied recreational sports provision for all students and regularly runs international sports tours and regional competitions in the likes of netball, table tennis and cricket.

Founded in 1541, Northampton School for Boys is a secondary school that provides single sex education to boys from Year 7 to Year 11, and to boys and girls in the Sixth Form. The school’s stated aim is to offer an all-round education that offers students to maximise levels of achievement both inside and outside the classroom, providing outstanding levels of care, support and guidance as students progress through the various stages in their education and prepare themselves for future career pathways.
