Outstanding finalists left judges with an almost impossible task

The county’s logistics sector was looking for another night to remember – and the organisers of the Northamptonshire Logistics Awards 2023 certainly delivered.

Now a firm feature in the awards calendar, the event celebrates those working in logistics and the supply chain sector, distribution, driving and recruitment, as well as marking those who make an impression in terms of health and safety, diversity and inclusion and environmental and sustainability matters.

With an overwhelming number of nominations to deal with, the judges had their work cut out to choose the overall winners among the stories of extraordinary efforts and accomplishments over the past 12 months.

So fierce was the competition in some categories that the judges had to include a Highly Commended mention for Olivia Harrison-Hine, for the Apprentice of the Year and MI Transport in the Small Logistics Company of the Year Award. Emilia Mikitova from Wincanton also received special mention in the HGV Driver of the Year Award announcement, which was won by Andy Otty.

The Chairman’s Special Award, sponsored by Rushlift, was presented to John Sherriff from Goodwill Solutions, who has supported a number of good causes throughout the year, in particular organising trips to Ukraine to deliver vital supplies, and providing sandwiches for the Hope Centre in Northampton as well as a place to store food for distribution to homeless people.

After John’s presentation was over, there came the announcement of a second Chairman’s Special Award, to Sol Retail – a family-run business in Northampton that has worked to support local charities to help them create sustainable models for growth.

Chairman Tony Bellott said: “The Chairman’s Special Award is where we celebrate outstanding contributions from an individual, team or organisation to the logistics sector in Northamptonshire. It says everything about the strength of some of the stories we’ve heard this year that we were simply not able to choose just one winner.

“All the winners on the evening were amazing, it’s been a fantastic event and so many of the finalists’ stories will stay with us for some time. We want to thank our sponsors and everyone who played a part in a special evening, and to all those who entered, and the finalists, for reminding us of the depth of excellence we have in this sector in this county.”
