Episode 91 | Inside the Henry Ford Academy

In this episode, Ben travelled to the Henry Ford Academy in Daventry. He sat down with Grace Gardner, Commercial Marketing Specialist, and Dan Savory, Partnership and Performance Management at the Academy.

The Henry Ford Academy was founded in 2015. According to Dan, it greets about 150 people a day from Ford dealerships across the country. The Academy provides training, conferences, and events for employees across the industry. Next door, they are also fortunate to have an expansive Partnership Distribution Centre.

A theatre-grade event space

The Henry Ford Academy boasts an impressive auditorium featuring a huge screen and professional lighting. Dan and Grace share how amazing it is to have this facility at their disposal, but it is currently underutilised in the dealership. The Academy has opened the space to other businesses interested in hiring it for events, training, conferences, and more.

The Academy has good connections with local hotels and can offer reduced rates. They have a prime position in the centre of the country and have catering services on site. Grace says she would love to see more schools utilise the space for career fairs, keynote speeches, and other events.

The rise of electric vehicles

Ben poses Dan the question: Is the country ready to switch to electric vehicles?

The Government recently introduced criteria for manufacturers to hit a certain number of EV sales or risk being fined. There is a significant push for people to switch to EVs and for the average person, Dan says that they’re great. It is also far more affordable to charge an EV battery than fill up with petrol.

Dan recommends a hybrid model for those who travel long distances, but the technology is constantly advancing. In the future, Dan reckons EVs should be able to handle 1000+ miles without recharging.
