A Northamptonshire-based environmental remediation and cleaning company brought festive cheer to a Corby care home by helping them create a bar area for residents.
Sandalwood Court created a new space for in-house amenities at the Butland Road facility, including the bar for a Yuletide tipple – but they needed some help with funding.
So, Specialist Remediation Solutions (SRS), of Desborough, stepped forward to assist, with senior supervisor John Lumsden ordering a bar for the new lounge which the team then built in situ.
The residents will use the impressive pub setting, which they have christened The Pensioner’s Arms, to relax and socialise together.
The official opening saw resident June Kanyo, who named the new space, take the honours of cutting the ribbon.
June said: “I was really surprised to learn we were getting a bar. I don’t know of any other care home that has done this before. They’ve done a really good job of building the bar and doing up the room. It’s great!”
Sam Morrison, activities coordinator at Sandalwood Court said: “The bar is a great idea for Sandalwood as it gives residents a change of scenery and a feeling of ‘going out’. We have lots of plans for how we can use this space going forward. We are getting a big screen to go up so people can watch the World Cup next year. We are also planning to host a Men’s Club, and a Ladies Day for Wimbledon with fizz and strawberries and cream.
“We are really grateful to Specialist Remediation Solutions for their kind donation – we know the bar will get lots of use!”
SRS offers a wide range of services across the country, including crime scene and trauma clean ups, house clearances and virus decontamination for a variety of clients including commercial businesses, police, care homes, estate agents and other private clients.
The award-winning company is keen to give back to its local community, which has supported its successful business launch.
John said: “It is important to us to give back to the local community that we are proud to be a part of, and the bar is just one way of us doing that.
“We were aware that the care home was looking to expand their in-house offering for the residents, and the bar is a really lovely idea to provide another fun area for them to meet up and socialise without having to leave the site, which can be difficult for some of the less mobile residents.”
