Retail expert appointed to drive centre forward

Southside Shopping Centre in Wandsworth has announced the appointment of Shannon Reed as its new Centre Director.

Shannon brings a wealth of experience in the retail landscape, having previously led operations for brands and franchise partners across Australia, Ireland, Kuwait, Oman and in the UK.

Southside Shopping Centre is a retail and leisure destination located in the heart of Wandsworth. Built in 1971, it was the largest indoor shopping centre in Europe, spanning over 600,000 square feet. The centre is home to more than 70 retail, dining, and entertainment brands including Waitrose, Lidl, H&M, Poundland, and Decathlon. Entertainment highlights include a 14-screen Cineworld with London’s first 4DX screen; Gootopia – the UK’s first slime experience; and Gravity Max with nine immersive activities under one roof such as E-Karting, bowling, Urban Street Golf and Hologate VR.

On-site dining options include BrewDog, Nando’s, Wagamama, Five Guys and Black Sheep Coffee.

In 2024, the centre underwent a multi-million-pound refresh with new entrances, integrated seating and lighting which combines modern aesthetics with community heritage. The wall to the West entrance was also transformed with art by local artist Ruki Chuki.

As Centre Director, Shannon is passionate about continuing to transform Southside into a vibrant, community-focussed destination, and ensure that the shopping centre will operate with the community at its core. The role will blend strategic leadership, operational oversight, and stakeholder engagement to drive the centre’s commercial and cultural success.

Shannon said: “Southside is brimming with potential, and we’re embarking on an exciting new chapter. Our recent enhancements, including new customer entrances, branding, and lighting that pays tribute to the site’s greyhound racing heritage, have made huge differences to the shopping experience for guests.

“We’re committed to continuing to invest in the centre and are delighted to be updating our retail mix to bring sought after brands to the heart of Wandsworth, which will keep our guests returning, time and again. We look forward to sharing more details around the centre’s plans in due course.”
