A team of cyclists from RS Components in Corby pedalled the message of inclusivity and diversity in society, sport and the workplace when they took part in the Tour of Cambridgeshire cycling event in June, racking up miles in the 50, 70 and 100-mile event routes.
The Tour of Cambridgeshire event started at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, where there was also a family festival spanning the weekend. RS was Gold Sponsor at the event, and supporter of the Rainbow Wave – a dedicated starting wave within Cambridgeshire Sportives with the aim of bringing together all walks of life, backgrounds and a diverse community of sexualities and gender-identity based cultures. RS’s 32-strong cyclist team came together to raise awareness of this goal.
Preston Taylor, Head of Enrichment Content and founder of Spectrum ERG at RS, said:
“RS is a passionate advocate of inclusivity and diversity, and we value this within our organisation. We believe that every person should be able to bring their true self to work each and every day, and that this is vital in the creation of a work environment that enables innovation, creativity, teamwork and happiness. We’re delighted to have been involved in this momentous event, both from the perspective of supporting the Rainbow Wave and the sporting achievement of our participating team, of which we are incredibly proud.”
The event was founded in 2014 by a keen cyclist duo who obtained the first UK licence for the UCI World Cycling Tour (UWCT) – a global organisation running worldwide qualifier events for amateur cycling championships. The Tour of Cambridgeshire was born and the inaugural event took place in 2015, although the pandemic forced cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 tour events.
Mark Taggart, Vice-President, Group Talent & Development at RS Group, is a keen cyclist and was one of the 32 riders from RS. He said:
“The 2022 event has been eagerly awaited because of the previous cancellations, so felt incredibly momentous for all involved. To add to this, many of the cyclists in our team also took part in the RS Tour de Branch in 2019 – a charity cycle ride challenge covering 1,100 miles in 12 days between RS Local branches spanning the length and breadth of the UK, raising £230,000 for Children with Cancer UK.
“It was a great reunion of many of the Tour de Branch cyclists, and a fantastic achievement for all of us involved. We’re proud to have used our love for cycling and sport in a way to help spread important diversity messages.”
