Safety service strengthened by latest appointment

The team of experts at leading health and safety consultancy, Acorn Safety Services continues to grow with the appointment of Legionella and Fire Consultant, Adam Midson.

Adam, who joined Acorn in July, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, which will see him develop a new division of the company dedicated to legionella risk assessments and testing.

Adam said:

“I am delighted to have joined the team at Acorn Safety Services at such an exciting time. Acorn has bold ambitions for the future, particularly around its legionella services, and I can’t wait to be part of it.

“I’ve spent many years working in the water industry, in plumbing and remedials and more recently gaining valuable experience carrying out legionella risk assessments.

“I’ve already been on the road meeting our clients face-to-face, and I’m really looking forward to developing these important relationships.”

Director of Acorn Safety Services, Neil Munro said:

“We’re really pleased to have Adam on board. He is a real asset to the team, with a wealth of experience in many areas of health and safety.

“Adam will play a leading role in the development of this side of our business, helping clients new and old navigate the complex rules around legionella and helping to carry out risk assessments and management of water systems.”

Employers, the self-employed, facilities managers, health and safety officers and landlords, are all among those who have a duty to protect people against the risks associated with legionella, a naturally occurring bacteria which can be found in water supplies. If left untreated, legionella can go on to cause Legionnaires’ Disease which can be fatal.

While legionella bacteria can cause problems anywhere given the right conditions, some areas, such as places where water is stored or recirculated, where the water temperature is between 20-45°C or where rust, sludge, scale and organic matters are present, are considered to be at much higher risk.

People who are more susceptible to infection, including the elderly and those with weakened immune systems, are also advised to take extra care.

A legionella risk assessment will look for any fittings which do not comply with the non- Water Regulations Approval Scheme, problems with your cold water tank or hot water cylinder and accessibility to all areas that require monitoring and maintenance by law.

Once the survey is complete, Acorn’s consultants will advise you on the next steps you need to take and give you impartial advice about repairs and remedials.

Acorn also offers a free online portal where clients can store risk assessment documents safely and securely online ensuring they are fully accessible whenever they are needed.

Acorn Safety Services is a fully independent health and safety consultancy with offices in Northampton, Birmingham and London and clients right across the UK.
