Members of the Bedford Blues squad made their annual visit to the children’s wards at Bedford Hospital last month to spread some Christmas cheer to young patients and their families.
Six players and Director of Rugby Mike Rayer spent the afternoon on Riverbank Ward at Bedford Hospital South Wing, before making their way to the Children’s Outpatients Department and the Children’s Accident & Emergency.
Bedford Blues-themed presents including teddy bears and heritage rugby balls were handed out to all young patients, while Michael Le Bourgeois presented a signed shirt to Health Play Specialist, Brenda Robinson, which will be proudly displayed on the ward.

Blues fly-half, Will Maisey said: “It’s a wonderful experience spending time with the children. Seeing smiles on their faces means so much to us, and we hope to bring them even a small moment of happiness with our visit.”
It was an incredible showing from the team, particularly in the midst of an intense set of fixtures including two home games in the week leading up to Christmas Day. But there was no question about stepping away from training and trying to spread Christmas cheer to young people and their families.
Blues loosehead prop, Joey Conway added: “The visit really puts things into perspective. Some of these children are going through a lot and so are their families, yet everyone was so upbeat and positive when we spoke to them.
“It was nice for us to be able to see everyone smile and share a moment together. I also want to credit the incredible staff for doing such amazing work and for being so welcoming to us.”The visit to Bedford Hospital has now become a traditional event in the calendar for the Blues squad and the perfect way to connect more members of the #BluesFamily at such an important time of the year for family and friends.
