Big step forward for modular buildings specialist

Revolutionary changes in the modular building sector look set to transform thinking about construction, and Northamptonshire firm The Qube is determined to be at the forefront of innovation in the sector.

The Qube, which has recently moved to new headquarters in Teeton, Northamptonshire, specialises in creating bespoke modular buildings that bring benefits including ease of assembly and reduced time and disruption on site, as well as offering a sustainable alternative to traditional construction methods.

The firm is probably best known for its work within the education sector, for which it delivers turnkey solutions to create more space and improve options for efficient use of classrooms and communal areas.

The Qube launched a Developments service to roll those same opportunities out to the residential sector, where new builds and extensions can be designed and created cost effectively using modern methods of construction (MMC). In addition, considerable progress has been made in the Tiny Homes market – bringing alternative living solutions and luxury staycation accommodation to the UK in conjunction with Australian firm Designer Eco Tiny Homes, Australia.

Tiny Homes offer chassis-built homes that can be easily situated on any suitable plot of land. The range starts at Tiny B&B, which is 4.8 metres long, up to the more luxurious Lifestyle Series 7000 which is seven metres long and incorporates a mezzanine large enough for a king size bed as well as a living area, bathroom and kitchen. The homes are ideal as a permanent residence, or as a holiday home/staycation retreat.

Its recent move to new premises allowed The Qube to build its first Tiny Home show home, which has already received excellent feedback from visitors to the likes of the Glamping Show at NAEC Stoneleigh and the Holiday Park & Innovation Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Jordan Spittle, Associate Director at The Qube, said:

“We’ve been promoting Tiny Homes for around a year now but until we finished the show home, we were relying on information and images from our Australian counterparts to illustrate to potential customers what was available.

“Now that we have been able to build our own show home, we’ve had some great feedback from the shows. It makes a difference to potential clients when they can see exactly what we are talking about and showcase the differences when the Tiny Homes are compared to other options like glamping pods and bell tents.

“Thanks to the success of the show home, we’ve got some great opportunities and orders lined up following the shows. We feel we’re ready to grow and expand, now that we’re in our new home, where we’ve got manufacturing and offices on the same site for the first time, which has streamlined our processes and opened up a lot of opportunities.”

The new out-of-town headquarters is up and running and is an impressive and attractive place to work. As well as the pleasant drive to work in the countryside, The Qube team will also soon have a gym on site, and lots of outdoor communal space.

Jordan added:

“We’re excited about developing the Tiny Homes side of the business. We hear a lot about affordable homes, but those that are being built are really not all that affordable, especially when compared to other ‘affordable schemes’ across the world.

“In the USA and Australia there are small communities of these Tiny Homes and I think the same could happen here if we look to relax certain planning laws. In the meantime, they can be used as holiday homes/rentals with our target being the leisure market – holiday parks, farms or landowners who are looking at diversification or sources of extra income. Traditional housing is not always right for everyone. For someone who lives alone and doesn’t want all the space that comes with even a small house, this could be an attractive proposition.”
