Top marks for a venue that ticks all the boxes

I think I have found my new favourite restaurant in Milton Keynes!

When looking where to visit this  month we were spoilt for choice but The Barge Inn just stood out for us as a place to visit, and trust me, we were not disappointed. Booking online was quick, easy and all confirmed in a text message.

We arrived a couple of minutes late but there was ample parking and, if needed at a busier time, there was an additional car park. The venue has two entrances and we were greeted by multiple smiles from all the staff, we let them know we had booked and we were taken to our table. The menus were given out and we were immediately asked if we had any allergies.

What I really liked was that the menu was simple but creative, we were both split on what we wanted but quite easily could have had everything. Personally, I couldn’t decide between the pie of the day and the lemon and king prawn skewers. To be fair I would have been happy with either but when my steak and merlot pie arrived my wife quite openly had food envy! She opted for the Chicken Forestiere. This oven-baked chicken was served on a bed of spinach topped with wild mushrooms and garlic sauce. Both meals arrived in good time and they were well presented. My pie was accompanied by creamy spring onion mash, green beans and roasted carrots, which were topped off with a red wine jus which was amazing. The pie was cooked to perfection and tasted superb.

I had already chosen my dessert before I had picked my main but we were informed there was no chocolate brownie so, disappointed, I opted for the mango and passion fruit pavlova. When I say disappointed, I had my heart set on the brownie but when my pavlova arrived, I instantly fell in love! It looked amazing, tasted superb and it was so filling I actually couldn’t finish the last bit. My wife, surprisingly, opted for the sticky toffee pudding. Now here is when avid readers of our restaurant reviews wonder if she had enough sauce. Well, fear not, there was plenty and tasted great.

So far lots of boxes had been ticked with great food and great presentation, the food suited the venue. The venue was clean, modern, well spaced out and overall was faultless. But the most impressive part of our visit was the service. Our waitress was attentive, prompt, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. She was always on hand and smiled throughout.

To summarise our visit to The Barge Inn, it was simply 10 out of 10. In our opinion nothing could have made our visit any better and we would definitely recommend visiting this amazing venue.

This visit was booked anonymously and the food and drink was paid for by the writer.
