Improvement work restarts at ‘most popular’ park
Willen Lake

Willen Lake

Phase Two Improvement work set to improve the visitor experience at Milton Keynes’ 6,000-acre parkland and green space site, Willen Lake, are now back under way as construction contractor Ashe Construction returns to site.

The project will deliver an impressive new building that will house a purpose-built water sports centre where visitors will be able to enjoy wakeboarding activities, an inflatable watercourse – Aqua Parks – and a new café and restaurant.

Designed by Q2 Architects the building will have state-of-the-art facilities for customers including modern changing rooms, showers and additional toilets, while also being fully accessible with level access lifts. Phase two of the improvement work is due to be completed in time for the 2021 summer season.

MAC Construction Consultants are overseeing the project management of the development and are providing Quantity Surveying and Safety, Health and Environment services.

Andrew Morris, Director of Ashe Construction said: “We are delighted to be re-mobilising the construction works on this exciting project. The recent events have served as a timely reminder of how important our green open spaces and recreational facilities are for our wellbeing. “We look forward to the completion of the project because we are confident we will then be in a place where the facilities can be utilised to their full potential, where friends and families can meet up and enjoy being together in the beautiful setting that Willen Lake affords.”

Dan Campbell, Senior Cost Manager at MAC added: “This is a truly impressive project being brought forward by The Parks Trust and will set the level of what all communities should strive for in terms of community space. “It’s been fantastic to be able to get the project back on site safely, and we will be working closely with the team to ensure this project is delivered on time and on budget.”
