MK SNAP is pleased to announce new Director of Learning & Quality

Steven Carruthers has recently been appointed Director of Learning and Quality at MK SNAP (Milton Keynes Special Needs Advancement Project) to drive and develop Quality in all aspects of the award-winning charity’s work.

Steven has been a key part of the Senior Management Team since 2014; with his education team delivering over 230,000 hours of learning to 150 people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities each year. Since that time Steven has held a variety of roles as well as Deputy Designated Safeguarding officer in his role as Head of Education at MK SNAP. Steven is committed to the continual improvement of high-quality opportunities for the charity and together with the team has created a more accessible, differentiated and learner-friendly offer ensuring that the charity receives recognition, both locally and nationally, for the quality of teaching and the significant contributions of everyone within the MK SNAP community regardless of ability.

Steven has dedicated his career to working in education; graduating from university with a BA Honours Degree he started his teaching career with MK College in Offender Learning in 2007 and gained his Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). This was the role which saw him develop and craft his skill as a teacher and team leader. It was within this first role that he realised his passion for helping those who had some form of disadvantage. It was while working within prisons that Steven felt the huge importance of celebrating and recognising achievements in people’s lives; which is something he remains passionate about today.

In his spare time, Steven is a gifted and talented artist and has previously showcased his artwork at art conventions. As Steven is a creative leader; demonstrated through his commitment to excellence; he continually strives to develop new and fun ways of learning and working to improve the charity. He was also a competitive swimmer in his youth winning numerous awards at galas and competitions.
