Supporting mental health and wellbeing

Staff at Milton Keynes based RTS Financial Planning have taken the Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) Training Course, a three-part course that explains social isolation and teaches skills on how to help someone who is considering suicide. The course is free to all and key to RTS Financial Planning’s vision to support mental health and wellbeing.

The ZSA is a collaboration of National Health Service trusts, charities, businesses and individuals who are all committed to suicide prevention in the UK and beyond. It is an alliance of people and organisations coming together around one basic principle: suicide is preventable.

RTS Financial Planning staff were given access to the online training via the ZSA website and allowed to complete it at their own pace.

The training course has three modules with the first introducing staff to how people can become socially isolated. The next module then takes this further and discusses some skills that can be used to help someone who considering taking their own life. The final module goes into more detail around suicide prevention training and focuses on breaking the stigma and encouraging open conversations.

Managing Director Carl Roberts said:

“I have always been passionate about helping people with mental health and wellbeing. Money can be a great cause of stress and worry and sadly lead to many considering suicide. I believe good financial health also creates good mental health.”

RTS Financial Planning aims to repeat the course on an annual basis to remind staff of this important subject and ensure skills are maintained.

Carl added:

“The skills learned through this course are more important than ever especially with everything that has gone on over the last few months. I’m sure a lot of us felt some form of isolation during lockdown. The ZSA course is something all businesses could offer to their staff which could in turn ensure a happier working environment.”

Formed in 2017, RTS Financial Planning is an independent financial advice firm that can help you retire, building wealth for you and your family to enjoy. They can help you understand your pensions, whether it is right to consolidate them and the best investment strategy to use. They will tell you how much you need what you need to do to get there.
