Construction firm ready for a busy year

Construction firm ready for a busy year - All Things Business

A construction firm from Northamptonshire has defied all the challenges of 2020 and emerged into 2021 on a high.

Last year, the construction industry faced unprecedented obstacles following the onset of the coronavirus pandemic to the extent that during the second quarter of the year Great Britain’s construction output fell by nearly 36%.

Everything from small domestic projects right through to multi-million pound commercial schemes came to a standstill when the first lockdown hit and, sadly, not all construction firms who were operating at the beginning of 2020 made it through to 2021.

One firm which has continued to defy expectations is multi-award-winning quantity surveying and estimating firm, Bhangals Construction Consultants.

During 2020, the Northampton-based consultancy received lots of praise and was heralded a ‘lockdown hero’ in the local media after Managing Director Parm Bhangal posted a series of free information videos on LinkedIn designed to help construction firms survive the pandemic.

The firm emerged from 2020 working on a series of exciting building projects across the UK and the next few months are guaranteed to be full of activity as the firm has been shortlisted for seven national and local awards, which are due to be announced in February and March.

Parm said:

“Last year was a difficult year for our industry and we were very grateful that throughout such a challenging time we had exciting projects to focus on.

“Despite all the challenges we faced, 2020 was a memorable year for us in other ways because we reached our tenth anniversary. While we were unable to celebrate in the way we’d have wished it was still a special moment for us and made us reflect on how far our business has come.

“I started the business, aged 22, in my bedroom. We’ve gone on to create a firm employing 20 people across sites in Northampton and London. We work with around 3,000 clients, turned over our first £1m in 2019, have picked up numerous awards and emerged strongly from one of the worst years the construction industry has faced – that is quite an achievement for us and our team.

“We’re now looking ahead to an incredibly busy awards season as we enter a year which we’re confident will be much better for us, our clients and the construction industry in general. It’s fantastic to have this recognition for our hard work and we will enjoy every minute of awards season but for us the thrill isn’t in the winning it’s in the doing. We love what we do in our business, the people we meet and the projects we’re involved in.

“I’ve no doubt that our success stems from the fact we stay positive, stay focused, work hard and over-deliver for our clients and that’s what we will continue to do in 2021 and beyond.”

In the SME National Business Awards, Parm is a finalist in the Business Person of the Year category and the firm is also up for Family Business of the Year. In the National Building and Construction Awards, Bhangals is in the running for Consultancy of the Year and Quantity Surveyors of the Year. Finally, in the SME Northamptonshire Business Awards, the firm is a finalist in the Business of the Year Less Than 50 Employees category and Family Business of the Year, while Parm’s wife Karen Bhangal has been shortlisted for Business Woman of the Year for her work with the organisation’s sister company, My Build Estimate.
