Acquisition further strengthens portfolio - All Things Business

Northampton communications specialists, dbfb, has announced an acquisition to support a significant deployment contract over the next two years.

The communications provider, which has offices in Northampton and Milton Keynes, and delivers mobile, hosted voice, connectivity and IT solutions to SME and Enterprise customers, has acquired Octopus Installations Ltd.

Octopus Installations, which will be rebranded as installations for business Ltd (infb), was founded in 2019 by Matt Broomes and Mike Wincott. The duo had previously worked for ACS for a number of years helping them deliver audio visual solutions and structured cabling.

The first year was a hugely successful one for Matt and Mike, and despite the restrictions of COVID-19 last year, they have continued to deliver steady growth for the business. In 2020 dbfb won a significant deployment contract and needed an installations partner to support them. Matt and Mike had demonstrated their ambitions for Octopus and importantly, they clearly shared the same service values as dbfb.

Simon Pickering, dbfb Managing Director, said:

“As we discussed the partnership to deliver a specific contract, it became apparent that there was a significant opportunity for both dbfb and Octopus. The acquisition strengthens the dbfb service portfolio, enabling us to deliver audio visual and structured cabling to our existing customers as well as grow the infb brand into a nationwide installations business.”

Mike Wincott, infb Technial Director, added:

“The chance to be part of the dbfb team is a great opportunity for Matt and I to accelerate our growth plans and we are really excited about developing into a UK-wide installation business.”

dbfb prides itself on being agile, responsive and ready to meet businesses’ technological needs. Relationships with some of the region’s leading networks and technology houses have been developed and nurtured over a period of time, and the company is the original launch and preferred partner for CityFibre in Northampton and Milton Keynes.

CityFibre is the UK’s largest alternative provider for wholesale fibre network infrastructure, and the builder of Gigabit Cities. It is leading the way in delivering a full-fibre digital overhaul to businesses across the UK.

When the partnership with CityFibre began in 2016, Milton Keynes was the third worst connected city in the UK and in desperate need of investment. Four years on, the partnership has facilitated £80m of inward investment into Milton Keynes and Northampton, connecting more than 170 businesses to date. Combined with dbfb’s other core services, it is perfectly positioned to bring ultrafast connectivity to businesses, as well as provide the all-important management and support required for business-critical internet services.

Simon Pickering added:

“Providing the infrastructure and connectivity is just one part of what dbfb offer. Most importantly, we see ourselves as a company that listens to our customers, understands their needs and works with them to develop a solution that works for their business. Once a plan is established, they can sit back and let us do the rest, and the addition of infb means we now have the capability to install the service to our standards.

“Modern communications can be complicated, but our focus is always on people – those within our team and those we work for. We don’t use jargon and we aim to make everything as simple as possible. We like to think we bring a human touch to cutting-edge technology.”
