Short-term option drives customer traffic - the apertus group

Some business innovation is years in planning and development, some ideas come out of nowhere and turn out to be one of the best things you’ve done in years.

Our 12-month vehicle leasing and rental scheme would certainly fall into the latter category. 

We were considering, last year, how people would be feeling about committing to a two or three-year lease deal when there was so much uncertainty around and no one was keen to be tied into anything, and we just asked ourselves why we couldn’t reduce our lease terms.

The way we did it was by putting together a list of vehicles for customers to choose from. Rather than coming to us with their own preferences and asking us to source a vehicle for them, we were able to give them the option of looking through our list, usually around 50 vehicles, and as long as they were happy to choose one of those, we could offer them excellent terms.

Automotive is one of the fields in which we have extended our range over recent years. We started off as energy specialists, using open and honest procurement and collective buying power to get the best deals to save our customers money on their utility bills.

Our experience, combined with our knowledge of how markets work and the level of trust we have built up over the years, were subsequently applied to print, telecoms and automotive procurement, expanding the service we could offer to our existing customers while also attracting new ones.

We’ve always been determined to do things differently. I insist upon transparency, honesty and openness, so the client knows they’re getting the best possible deal and we know that we’ve done the best we can for them. At the same time, as we as a business worked hard to adapt to the challenges of the pandemic, we were aware that our customers might well be struggling, too. That’s what prompted us to look at what we could do to help other businesses and just take the pressure off wherever we could.

One thing that has always been vital to me is the customer’s experience. I have taken time to grow what I believe is a fantastic team at The Apertus Group and one of the key things that I look for is the personal approach – that they take things personally, that they collectively want to give customers the best experience in the market they have ever received.

The automotive team understands that finding a car for the customer that is fit for purpose is an important part of the process. Customers can make the right decision if we ask the right questions about what they need from their vehicle and how it fits in with their business interests.

Costs are transparent and every customer has their own dedicated account manager who is there throughout the lifecycle of the vehicle, from choosing the right model at the start through to replacing it at the optimal time.

We’ve always prided ourselves on delivering an efficient, simple and cost-effective solution, and now we think we have something different to offer with our shorter-term leasing service.

By collating a list of vehicles that are readily available, and where the costs are set and customers are not being tied into long-term deals we can make it as straightforward as possible to drive away a lease car knowing that you can upgrade to a new plate every year, but with the peace of mind that you have no liabilities beyond that 12-month period.

Not only that, but we do a price comparison every week with two different brokers and we find our deals usually come out cheaper against regular leasing deals.
