Bedford Blues are delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Cannon as the club’s new Commercial Manager, as Ted Carroll retires.
Matthew joins with a wealth of experience behind him, having held similar roles at Leicester City, Northants Cricket, Wasps and more recently, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce.
Eager to hit the ground running, Matthew is excited to further build on the club’s existing relationships and forge new partnerships.
On arriving at Goldington Road, he said:
“I am absolutely thrilled to join Bedford Blues – it’s a club steeped in history and with fantastic support that engages the whole of the community.
“Having been involved in professional sport for many years, I’m extremely excited by the opportunity that presents itself and I can’t wait to start making a contribution to the club’s commercial strategy.
“The Goldington Road atmosphere is the best in the Championship and I’m looking forward to experiencing this once again, whilst building relationships with the sponsors and supporters.”
Coinciding with Matthew’s appointment, Bedford Blues would like to thank Ted Carroll for his many dedicated years of service to the club as he leaves his position.
An integral character off the field since joining the club 15 years ago, Ted has been responsible for many sponsorships over the seasons and some fantastic evenings at Goldington Road through his ever-popular sportsman’s dinners, hosting rugby legends such as Dylan Hartley, Nigel Owens, Stuart Barnes and Jamie George in recent years.
Responsible for the highly successful Bedford Blues Golf Days, he leaves his post with the very best wishes from everyone associated with Bedford Blues, who look forward to welcoming him back to Goldington Road as special guests when allowed.
Chief Operating Officer, Gareth Alred said:
“I’d like to firstly thank Ted for his many years of incredible service to the club and personal support over the last seven years. He is one of life’s gents and his humour will be missed by everyone at the club.
“Whilst sad to see Ted leave, we are also extremely excited to welcome Matthew. He boasts a very impressive CV in the sporting commercial landscape with plenty of local knowledge and an appreciation of the values at this club.
“Coming from a rugby family in the East Midlands, I am confident he will fit in to his surroundings quickly and help increase the commercial viability of Bedford Blues.”
