Are you in need of some sun, sea and sand?

News | July 1, 2021

Are you in need of some sun, sea and sand?

With many Brits not having been abroad since before the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is getting restless and craving a bit of foreign sun.

With restrictions slowly easing, holidays abroad could be a reality again by autumn/winter. Rob Gower at Dragonfly Traveller lists his Top 10 recommendations for winter sun:

The Maldives – perfect for a relaxing sunshine break as it is home to flawless white beaches, shimmering turquoise waters and pristine coral reefs.

Dubai – a popular destination for many as it caters exceptionally well for families, couples and friends. November is our favourite month to travel to Dubai as it is hot but less humid. From water parks and the Dubai Mall to a fantastic art scene, this place has so much to offer.

The Bahamas – for a spectacular tropical escape, Harbour Island is our choice! It has long pink sandy beaches, stretching along the eastern shore and numerous beaches with marinas on the western side of the island. If you enjoy diving, there are some great outlying coral reefs like the Devil’s Backbone, which is home to marine life such as stingrays and turtles.

Hawaii – best known for its surfing, Hawaii is a popular destination for all-year-round sun, boasting some of the very best beaches in the world.

Miami – although this may not seem the obvious choice, Miami is a great place to combine a city break with a beach holiday. Combining a cosmopolitan city and a laid-back beach lifestyle in beautiful surroundings, sun-kissed Miami has something for everyone.

Sri Lanka – the heavenly tropical beaches are popular for family winter breaks. Sri Lanka is a real treasure trove. Set amongst lush, green and picturesque mountains lined with tea plantations, and alongside golden, sandy beaches, the setting is spectacular and makes for the holiday of a lifetime.

Costa Rica – nature’s renowned eco-paradise, Costa Rica is full of stunning landscapes and wonderful beaches. The beaches of Cahuita and Punta Uva are perfect for diving and snorkelling, or you can watch giant sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches of Tortuguero. Costa Rica’s beaches are surrounded by forests, and many are home to beautiful coral reefs too.

Florida – the perfect retreat for a little rest and relaxation. It also offers exceptional shopping opportunities, exciting nightlife and a rich history. The number one reason for planning a holiday to Florida is the beaches. With thousands of miles of beautiful coastline, and an exceptional weather forecast to match, it is easy to see why. Theme parks would be a close second with SeaWorld Orlando, Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventure all based in the sunshine state.

The Canary Islands – a great place to start if you’re looking for a destination that offers excellent accommodation, beautiful beaches and wonderful places to eat. What’s more, they’re really not that far away, making them a great choice for a quick getaway.

Oman – offering almost guaranteed blue skies, Oman is perfect for winter sun. This Arab state offers so much more than just the perfect beach break. You can also seek out beautiful mountain and desert landscapes and there are over 500 forts, castles and towers in Oman to visit!
