New fleet range wins technology award

Motors, News | September 28, 2021

VW fleet wins technology award

The new Volkswagen Caddy has won the Technology Award in the Company Van Today Awards 2021, and received praise for its pioneering combination of connectivity, safety, and all-round functionality.

The fifth-generation Caddy offers a digital cockpit, voice control, wireless smartphone charging for complete convenience, and innovative driver assistance systems, such as Front Assist, to enhance safety.

As well as scooping the Technology Award, the Volkswagen Caddy, which launched in 2020, was highly commended in the Light Van category, while Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ versatile line-up received further praise from judges: the Transporter 6.1 and Crafter were highly commended in the Medium Van and Large Van categories, respectively.

The Company Van Today Awards are decided by the magazine’s editorial team, harnessing decades of experience of the light commercial vehicle sector. They reward the vehicles that best serve the business marketplace across a broad range of criteria including operating cost, payload, safety equipment and technology.

Tom Webster, said Company Van Today Editor, said:

“Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is a very strong competitor across the board in terms of the quality and appeal of its light commercial vehicle range, and the latest Caddy’s range of advanced technology makes it a light van pioneer in terms of connectivity, safety and all-round clever functionality.

“The Caddy is one of the few light commercials that can match up to passenger cars in terms of the latest-generation kit, and great to see van drivers so well catered for.”

Claire English, Head of Fleet at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said:

“The Volkswagen Caddy has won a string of awards since it was launched, and for it to be recognised alongside our entire line-up, just shows how versatile our range is, no matter the job at hand. It’s great to see the safety and technology recognised in this award, and we’ve managed to deliver this with no impact on capability and performance. The Caddy is a truly modern van.”

Meanwhile, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also scored a double win in the Fleet News Awards 2021, with the Caddy Cargo awarded Best Small Van, and Transporter 6.1 named Best Medium Van.

Despite fierce competition, the fifth-generation Caddy Cargo scooped the award for Best Small Van. Launched in 2020 on the MQB platform, the Caddy was praised for its car-like driving attributes, new efficient engines, safety features, and reduced running costs.

In a similarly tough category, the new Transporter 6.1 was named Best Medium Van, and received praise for its safety technology and advanced driver assistance systems. Judges said it was the ‘stand-out van’ in the category and was ‘universally loved by drivers’, thanks to competitive running costs, excellent reliability, and a strong dealer network.

The annual Fleet News Awards highlight the leading fleet companies, suppliers and manufacturers in the UK. The expert judging panel is made up of Fleet News’ editors, all of whom boast decades of invaluable experience and industry knowledge used to decide the winners in each category.

Stephen Briers, editor-in-chief of Fleet News, said:

“Following such a strange year in 2020, we are very pleased to have been able to host this year’s Fleet News Awards at Ascot Racecourse, recognising the best new vehicles and manufacturers in the industry.

“The Volkswagen Caddy Cargo is a truly modern van, offering efficiency, reliability and advanced technology to keep drivers safe. The Transporter 6.1 is another stand-out van; it’s packed with driver assistance systems and provides customers with competitive running costs and a strong dealer network.”

Claire English, Head of Fleet at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said:

“We are delighted that two of our newest models have been awarded top spots in this year’s Fleet News Awards.

“It is great recognition of all the work that has gone into creating the new Caddy Cargo and Transporter 6.1, and we hope that our customers, whether they own small or large fleets, continue to experience their award-winning qualities for years to come.”
