Engineering success across five decades

News, Property | November 1, 2021

Stanair Employees Engineering

Stanair Industrial Door Services Ltd has announced the promotion of its Engineering Manager, Ben Walsh, to Technical Director.

Stanair was established in 1974 to provide 24-hour reliable repairs to industrial and commercial doors. The company has come a long way from the days of the founders working from their dining room table. Now Stanair operates from four depots based in Peterborough, Milton Keynes, Rugby and its head office in Kettering. From these bases, Stanair serves customers within a one-hour radius – which allows the teams to respond quickly to emergency door repairs. In addition, the company soon gained a reputation for providing a quality service which promoted loyalty amongst its customers – something of which the company is very proud.

Stanair’s product range has really diversified since the early days of repairing sliding doors. The firm now services, repairs and installs roller shutter doors, sectional overhead doors, rapid action doors, dock levellers, barriers, gates, fire exit doors, personnel doors, bollards and more. However, it is not just the expertise and range which marks the company out as unique. It is also its commitment, ethos and investment in every member of the team.

Ben Walsh is just the latest example of how the company encourages its staff to succeed and progress within their chosen careers.

Ben’s story with the company began all the way back in 1995 when he joined as a trainee engineer. Ben had always known he wanted to enter the world of engineering. He soon showed promise not only as a talented engineer but also as a leader of others. He soon worked his way through the ranks – becoming a Lead Engineer, then promoted to Engineering Manager before ultimately becoming Technical Director of the company.

His new role requires him to inform the directors of any new developments in the industry, oversee the training and progression of the engineers, and to ensure that they become ‘the best they can be’. He aims to achieve this last aim through constantly reviewing training needs, being on-call to offer advice and support and even building their confidence through a mentoring system. Ben sees his engineers as an extended family and is passionately committed to their success. He is motivated by the ambition that every engineer will ‘offer the best service possible to the customer’ and sees his own progression within the company as evidence that it is possible to grow and progress within the company.

David Wood, managing director, said:

“We are very proud of Ben and all that he has achieved. We are strong believers in rewarding hard work and loyalty across all of our team – from engineers to managers. We can’t wait to see what plans he has for the future and how we can help him to achieve these.”
