AJ Cycles get the wheels in motion to reduce their carbon emissions

Environment & Sustainability, News | November 22, 2021

family

Rushden Lakes based bicycle retailer, AJ Cycles, have joined forces with family run recycling company, Cawleys, in an effort to improve their environmental credentials and recycle as much of the waste as possible.

AJ Cycles are an independent family run cycle store that has been in operation since 2006 and prides itself on outstanding customer service. Located in Rushden Lakes, a busy retail outlet park, the shop welcomes high volumes of customers on a daily basis. As such, the business is very mindful of its waste, much of which is cardboard packaging. The new relationship with Cawleys will help them divert this waste stream back into the circular economy ensuring minimal impact on the planet.

Working with Cawleys has allowed AJ Cycles to maximise their recycling rates and reduce unnecessary waste miles due to the close proximity of both businesses.  With both companies having similar values as family run organisations, the local community is extremely important, and the partnership will benefit both businesses as well as the environment for years to come.

AJ Cycles will be having their multiple card bins emptied regularly by Cawleys and transported to the according facility for recycling. The card will be graded, baled, and sent to a paper mill to be pulped and made into new paper.

Cawleys who have been in business for over 70 years, focus on giving companies waste new leases of life through sustainable recycling and resource management.

Paul from AJ Cycles commented on the partnership and said:

“Minimising our impact on the planet is extremely important to us. Unsurprisingly we are huge advocates of anything that supports the environment. Cycling is a carbon neutral way to travel and encourages people to get out and about in nature and appreciate all that our planet has to offer. Working with Cawleys allows us to compliment this ethos by ensuring that the waste from our outlet is put to good use and recycled into 2nd life products.”

Commenting on the development, Anna Cawley, Head of Customer Services said:

“As an independent family run business, we care about our local community around us. We are so excited to be helping a fellow family run organisation improving their environmental foundations. Recycling is crucial and we’re happy to be helping AJ Cycles in achieving their environmental goals”.
