Fast reliable network prepares us for the future

News, Technology | December 1, 2021

CityFibre is now two years into its £40m full fibre network deployment across Northampton. In that time, we have seen a rapid roll out to premises across Northampton, with tens of thousands of premises now ready to access some of the fastest and most reliable broadband services available. Indeed, full fibre availability in the town has increased from below 1% when we started to over 40% today, overtaking the national average.

Fast, reliable internet connectivity is essential. The way we work, how we access services and how we keep in touch with our loved ones has dramatically changed, shifting in the blink of an eye from physical to digital. Northampton’s new future-proof full fibre network means it is well placed to adapt to these changing times and ensure it has a bright future ahead as our attention turns to economic growth and innovation.

At CityFibre, we care about the communities within which we operate. And make no mistake, a new full fibre network will have a transformative effect on those who live and work in Northampton. Full fibre connectivity doesn’t just help households to access services and the latest entertainment at lightning-fast speed, it is also significantly more reliable. With demand for better high-speed broadband never higher, we have more Internet Service Providers joining our network all the time, offering a range of services to meet all needs.

Likewise, as we are not reliant on legacy copper networks. As we plan our fibre network we are able to make sure that more and more business parks and premises are able to be served as we spread full fibre throughout the town. This is a real enabler of technological innovation and economic growth and will bring new revolutionary products and choices to residents and business in the town.

Of course, we know that projects of this scale can cause disruption to residents and businesses – to help reduce this and speed up delivery time, we have been piloting new deployment techniques in Northampton, including the use of existing telecommunication infrastructure. I want to thank all our partners and the communities we work in for their understanding during our build, the benefits of which will last for decades to come.

In addition to the amazing progress in Northampton, we have recently announced plans to extend our network to Kettering, Rushden, Wellingborough and other locations throughout the county, over the coming years. This will see many more millions of pounds worth of investment in the area’s digital infrastructure, and massively boost its economic growth.

All of us can benefit from world-class digital connectivity, and the opportunity for businesses across Northamptonshire is significant. It is a privilege to be leading the rollout of our full fibre network. Demand and take up of services has been incredible and we look forward to connecting even more homes and businesses.

It’s time to demand better broadband.

If you’d like to find out more about the build in your area or find what full fibre broadband packages are available to you today, register your interest at www.cityfibre.com/ATB
