Businesses are being urged to support an innovative scheme to help eradicate digital poverty in the region.
Tech Together brings together business leaders and education experts in the county who are collectively calling on companies and organisations to back its drive to provide donated digital devices for children across Northamptonshire.
At the launch of the Northamptonshire Education Awards (NEAs) and Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards (NBEAs), it was announced that Tech Together is now launching a permanent programme aimed at providing vital technological devices for children who need them most.
Tech Together is appealing to businesses, organisations and individuals to donate unused or unwanted laptops and tablets, which will be professionally wiped of any previous data and prepared for schools in the region to distribute to pupils.
The founders of Tech Together – All Things Business, Nene Education Trust and Bechtle – have collectively pledged to eradicate digital poverty in Northamptonshire.
The current campaign has been announced after the original Tech Together initiative, launched during the Covid pandemic to help home learning and enable children to study remotely, provided devices for more than 550 children.
Ben Thomas, Managing Director of All Things Business, said:
“We are urging businesses to support the Tech Together campaign to help make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of families in our region.
“There is a very real need for this support and the donation of hundreds of more digital devices. By launching a permanent Tech Together programme, bringing businesses in Northamptonshire together to work with the local authorities and organisations, we can support schools so their pupils can learn and grow using digital technology and ensure that no child is at a disadvantage through digital poverty.”
Matt Coleman, Deputy CEO of Nene Education Trust said:
“At Nene Education Trust, we are delighted to once again be joining up with Ben and the team at All Things Business to promote this crucial initiative. During lockdown, we raised awareness of the concerning statistics surrounding digital poverty, and through linking up with many excellent Northamptonshire businesses, we were able to make a difference to many families with the Tech Together initiative.”
Jon Thorpe, Managing Director at Bechtle, added:
“As founding partners we are thrilled to be helping to establish the permanent Tech Together programme, which will help so many families in our communities who will benefit from the donation of devices. It is a privilege to be able to pledge our ongoing support in this campaign, which will make a difference to the lives of so many children and young people.”
