Wellingborough School students celebrate GCSE success

In a year with unprecedented challenges for Year 11 students, Wellingborough School is celebrating the achievements and resilience of our students as they receive their GCSE grades. Results are justly high; 99% of results are at grades 9-4 (formerly A*-C) with 20% at grade 9 and over 73% grades from 9-6 (formerly A*-B). The grades submitted by the School were based on each pupil’s performance throughout their course and despite the cancellation of public examinations they can be proud of their well-deserved achievements.

There were many outstanding individual results with 16 pupils gaining a clean sweep of grades 9-7 (formerly A*/A).

“These pupils have been through the emotional mill in the last few days, seeing what was happening to their peers in the Upper Sixth and, understandably, concerned what that would mean for them. The announcement earlier this week may have settled those nerves, as Year 11 will rightly trust their teachers to have made sound and fair judgments with regard to submitted grades. There was, however, still a palpable tension as they opened their results this morning. Our Year 11 pupils worked extremely hard and their talent has been rewarded with a fine set of grades. We must remember that this was achieved whilst they also busied themselves with so many other important aspects of School life. They are true Wellingburians, taking all of the opportunities that are presented to them. Our new Lower Sixth must, however, immediately look forward to A level study, made all the more challenging by having spent over five months away from School. They are, however, well equipped to deal with the rigours of the Sixth Form and will be expertly supported by their teachers. These students should be spending their A level Study Leave in our new Sixth Form Centre, the building of which should commence next summer. So there is much for these young people to look forward to in the coming weeks and months.”
