At Manor School we want our students to be proactive, positive members of their local, regional and global communities to enable them to have the capacity to make a difference.
Our curriculum context links to Work.World.Wellness. We want students to have a positive view of the world, be employable and lead a healthy and active lifestyle. The biggest driver is a desire to provide the very best education for the young people of Raunds and the surrounding area.
As part of the Work aspects to our curriculum we want to ensure that we are developing an understanding of personal pathways and that an entrepreneurial spirit is at the heart of what we do. As students develop, they become aware of the links between education, work and the role of lifelong learning, and understand that people’s skills are built up over time because of learning and experience. We want our students to be adaptable, agile and flexible in their skills and learning as they are unlikely to train for a job for life. Therefore, the work curriculum outlines four attributes students will develop to successfully transition through school, education and on to the world of work:
Developing self-awareness – students increase their awareness of their strengths and interests and how they relate to others. They see themselves positively, demonstrating a hopeful picture of themselves in the future
Exploring opportunities – students explore adult roles in their communities and the range of occupations that contribute to the products and services people use in their daily lives and demonstrate optimism that they will do the same in the future
Deciding and acting – students develop transferable skills in research, goal setting, evaluating options and reaching decisions
Transitions – students become aware of the style and nature of transitions to KS4, KS5 and beyond and students are prepared for this transition.
Career aspirations are the desire and intention to pursue an occupation or a particular position within an occupation. Aspirations play an important role in career decisions because they reflect the goals and intentions that influence individuals toward a particular course of action.
To build on this further, we are focusing on National Careers Week which is running from March 1-6. National Careers Week is a celebration of careers guidance in education. The aim is to provide a focus for the types of careers that are available to help students prepare for leaving education.

- Virtual visits
At Manor School we will be providing a variety of opportunities for the students. All students during their Work.World.Wellness lesson will be reflecting on their careers aspirations and the next steps. There will be inspirational videos from a variety of speakers, understanding the sectors that are available, and what experiences and skills are required. We are getting opportunities for students to talk to locally and international business sectors.
There will be daily three-minute videos from local, regional and national companies on the pathways that are available to the students. This will enable students to learn and understand the various sectors, what pathways are available and the qualifications that are required. This will be developed further through looking at what styles of apprentice routes there is.
A theme will be to provide opportunities in STEM subjects and careers path videos, with question and answers opportunities which students will be shown each day during various parts of the week. There will be links and opportunities for students to be able to access on various careers advice and next steps for the students on the school website for additional resources.
Year 9 students will be having their GCSE options online evening, providing further opportunities to discuss with their class teachers their options, next steps and future planning.
Teaching staff, at the start of each lesson, will provide an opportunity to share the career opportunities linked to their subject and personal experiences. We will be focusing on 21st Century Employability Skills, looking at what the future in the world of work will look like.
We will be ensuring there are opportunities for female students with links to International Women’s Day. We will be sharing a personalised podcast from a range of inspiring female speakers on their careers, experiences and advice to the students. The podcast provides an excellent insight into diverse inspirational stories and career paths. This will also provide the opportunity for students to pose questions to the speakers.
