A place where digital dreams are made

We live in an increasingly connected world, where technology is allowing us to be ever smarter in the way we go about our days.

From voice-controlled smart plugs which turn our lights on and boil the kettle as we get out of bed in the morning, to live-streamed gaming tournaments with friends from around the world in the evening – our world is dominated, and enriched, by digital devices.

This rapid development of technological advances has created a wealth of opportunities for a generation that has grown up with a phone in their hand and on-demand entertainment on multiple screens. Digital isn’t something to be fearful of, it’s something to embrace, explore and enjoy.

Work on Northampton College’s state-of-the-art Digital Academy is coming on apace. It’s on track to open its doors this September and it promises to be a hive of activity as it welcomes its first intake of students with big ideas and even bigger ambitions.

These are the pioneers and visionaries who will shape our future. They will be coding the computer programmes we will all be using day in, day out. They will be designing the games that will be played by millions.

They will be producing social media content for the biggest global brands. They will be at the cutting edge of Esports. They will be market leaders in augmented reality, harnessing the potential of this ground-breaking technology to change the world for the better.

The courses we will offer will be shaped by current industry leaders, tailored to suit an emerging and fast-growing local jobs market, ensuring we produce a pipeline of work-ready talent that can hit the ground running and make Northampton a nationally recognised centre of excellence in digital development.

This depends on a dedicated team working hard to shape a new generation of digital natives. And, alongside those with generic digital skills, the college is looking for experts in three key areas to join the teaching team:

  • IT and Digital Applications – Coding, Cyber Security, Basic Digital Skills, Robotics, Drone technology and Application, Web Design and Development
  • Digital Arts – Photography, Fashion, Visual Effects and Illustration
  • Creative Media – Esports, Games Design, Virtual and Augmented Reality

This is an opportunity to use the knowledge you have gained in your career in a highly rewarding role. It will revitalise your career in a fresh and exciting way, enabling you to build on or develop new skills and further enhance your career opportunities.

The roles can be undertaken in a flexible way to complement the individual’s lifestyle. Although the work is demanding, there are opportunities to choose between working full time, part time, evenings and potentially Saturdays. If you are feeling disillusioned with a nine-to-five grind, this could be perfect for you.

The Digital Academy is arguably the most exciting building being built in Northampton right now. It’s far more than classrooms and computer screens, it’s a place where the future is being created before our very eyes. It’s a place where ideas will become reality. It’s a place that will change lives.
