New High Sheriff appointed

This year’s High Sheriff of Northamptonshire is Amanda Lowther DL who took over from Paul Parsons in April.

Born in Wales, Amanda married Hugh Lowther in 1985 and moved to Northamptonshire in 1986. They have three adult daughters, Flora, Georgia and Lucia, all now working and living in London.

Having lived in the county for 35 years, Amanda feels very much part of the community. She has a great love of the countryside and is a partner of Lowther Farms with her husband.

Amanda’s career has been centred in fine art. She studied History of Art at Leicester University as a mature student, graduating in 2011 with a First. This led to British Art Portfolio, founded in 2011 with her partner Louise Newton, curating pop-up art exhibitions around the country, specialising in Modern and Contemporary original British art.

A Governor of St Andrew’s Healthcare since 2009, Amanda has been a Mental Health Act Manager since 2012. She is keenly aware of the problems experienced by young people, from school age to university leavers, as well as victims of domestic abuse. In her year in office, she will be shining a light on the many excellent voluntary organisations rising to the challenges posed by COVID-19 and do what she can to help young people in the county who have been adversely affected by the pandemic.

Amanda has a particular concern for the care needs of those in the community who have learning disabilities. This concern is reflected in her support for The Goed Life, a Northamptonshire charity that enhances the lives of young adults with learning disabilities. She is also a Patron of another local charity, Crysalys, addressing childhood disadvantage and trauma.

An enthusiastic supporter of the Northamptonshire Britain’s Best Surprise initiative, Amanda will also promote the unique heritage of the county as well as all the good things to see and do, eat and drink in Northamptonshire, to help local businesses thrive and be sustainable.
