If there’s a problem, there’s a solution, it just sometimes takes a special person to find it, particularly in the fast-moving world of logistics solutions
The team at Logistics Solutions Group (LSG) works tirelessly, more often than not against tight timescales and at short notice to draw on an in-depth knowledge of the sector to serve clients who’ve been left with supply, storage or transport challenges.
In recognition of the excellent service provided by the company, set up two years ago by Danielle Wykes, LSG was presented with the Team of the Year Award at the Northamptonshire Logistics Awards in September.
“It really was the award we wanted to win, because this team is at the heart of what the business is about,”
said Danielle.
“We’re a fairly new business and I never expected to win and no-one was more surprised than me when they announced our name, but I’m absolutely proud and delighted.
“LSG operates in a high pressure environment, but we make sure we build and nourish the team and make LSG somewhere they want to work and where they feel valued. We have created an environment where they have the flexibility to work round their own circumstances and to support one another and still get the satisfaction of helping clients out of a stressful situation.”
Danielle drew on more than 15 years’ experience with large logistics providers to start her own company at the end of 2019. She set about putting together an open and non-biased network to offer clients looking for warehousing, storage, transport or a full end-to-end logistics solution a transparent view of all the options available to them, with no contractual or financial commitment. LSG deals with more than 2,000 partners in the UK, covering a comprehensive range of logistics solutions.
Companies can register space and capacity so that LSG are able to supply clients with all the relevant information needed to find a solution to their enquiry.
Each enquiry is unique, often complex and usually time sensitive – requiring the best solution in the shortest time possible to an immediate problem. To help clients find that solution, Danielle has put together a team of five women, some of whom have experience in the sector and some that bring complementary services and apply them to the strategic side of the business. Together they work on enquiries as they come in, calling upon a database of resources to find the practical and consultative solutions that get clients back on track.
“As LSG has grown, we’ve expanded the team and what I wanted was to bring in people who are passionate about helping people,”
said Danielle.
“Those of us who’ve worked in logistics have vast experience, but I’ve also got people working for me who haven’t worked in the sector but who just know how important it is to work fast, throw themselves in to helping our clients and then have the immense satisfaction of knowing we’ve made a difference.
“We have clients who come to us with a variety of requirements, involving a combination of additional transport needs, extra racked or floor palletstorage and peak overflow, or who maybe find they are being asked for a specialist service they don’t regularly provide. Whatever they need, we have a catalogue of suppliers we can go to in order to find a solution.
“As well as short-term help, we also source whole distribution sites, supporting clients in securing flexible contracts and terms on entirewarehouses where required.
“Until we find a solution that works for the client, there’s no charge to them so coming to us is an obvious choice – they literally have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
Once a solution has been found, clients can call upon the expertise of Danielle and the team for support through the transaction, assisting with the negotiations, advising on what is, and isn’t, a fair price, and ensuring there is satisfaction all round.
Kim Craddock, Head of Solutions, added: “At LSG we have a fantastic team who all have their specialist area, but all pull together to cover every aspect of a project, whether that’s transport, contracts, account management, all the pieces have to fit together. It’s incredibly hard work, adrenaline levels are high when our client is really up against time, but we get such a buzz from being able to provide the answers.
“All of our clients need an immediate solution. We’ve spent time building a network of suppliers and partners, not just people we know and work with, but thousands of different operators that mean we can identify the right solution quickly.”
